timing chain problems

timing chain problems
My cars check ingine light came on a couple weeks ago and was running pretty rough. I took it in to the shop and they said it was either my piston rings or a bad cyl. head. so i drove it for a couple more days and the timing chain apparently had broken its guide and it busted a hole in the bottom of the cyl head and in the valve cover in the top....would the chain have caused the cyl misfire?
I have a couple different options
1. new timing chain, head, and valve cover 1450$ and may not fix it if it damaged the cyl.
2. used engine (70k) 1800$ installed
3. scrap whole car for $1000
what do you guys think?
