I've noticed that on our imported German cars. They have a "W" and "S" mode. BMW's have them too. I've wondered what that is.

newer benz's have winter and standard driving modez

i think from 98+

winter starts you from 2nd gear or something

standard from 1-2... etc

1996 C36 AMG, 1995 Volvo 850 Turbowagon
w is usually "winter" mode (starts either in 2nd or 3rd gear)
e is usually "economy" mode (saves gas by shifting at lower rpm points, slower kickdown)
s is usually "sport" mode (shifts at higher rpm, faster kickdowns)


in general that is....
