My 96 C280 has been a great car but has developed a strange problem. First when i start the car cold it runs horrible idle jumps up and down and car will sometimes die then has to be started again. When it warms up the idle is perfect and runs very nice. Also when car is warm and i go to start after its sat for awhile it will almost never start on first try then i try again and will hesitate until i give it gas then will run fine. The check engine light says egr valve which i just replaced and didn't help the problem. Ive changed plugs and maf thinking they might help. I really love my car and i'm just lost on what to do please any help would be greatly appreciated

Get it checked out by a specialist IMO. Better than scratching and changing parts when you are not sure they are the problem to begin with.

we have a dealer and they want an arm and leg and can't promise any results. so i don't mind tuning up car and replacing some parts because the car has 100k on it just thought someone might have some insight on the problem i just got a new cps and wires and well see if that helps any maybe ill have to get diagnosed is does not help but i'd rather do it myself i love working on Mercedes. also i'm not just guessing i'm changing parts that the computers code throws out except for the wires and cps just figure they might be bad.

I think your on the right path, keep trying to go by the codes being thrown and if need be find an indy shop specializing on MB rather than the stealership.

Well changed cps and plug wires still wants to die on startup but runs fine when warms up maybee it could be related to cold start injectors does anyone have any insight besides go to mercedes shop?

I had a similar problem which turned out to be the air mixture sensor that had come out of the air ducting after it comes off the top of the engine. The big black plastic tube that the MAF is attached to but further round to the right hand side
