sour (vinegar like) smell

Anybody experience a bad (vinegar like) smell coming from the air vents? I only smell it when heat is on and then it goes away.

That's gross. Change your cabin filter. It's located in the passenger footwell.

Yup its gross and bugs the hell out of me, especially when I have people riding with me but it only does that in the beginning. Dealer changed the filter last winter they said they don't smell anything and no leaks but replaced it anyway then it came back again. I don't even use the car that often.

My only guess is that a drain is plugged somewhere and the water sits and maybe mildews or something.

I'm guessing it's mildew/mold also. Try some Lysol

Thanks. I'll have it checked again. Just thought some of you had experienced this.

sometimes even the car perfume will make such a smell happen when it went into the air-con.
if so, take the perfume away and put some charcoal inside your car.
of course use a cotton bag to hold it!!!
it can help to absorb the smell!!!!

How do you access it? I'm not looking at it right now, so I thought I'd ask real quick. Thanks.

Look underneith the footwell with a flashlight. I think there are like four screws holding a panel on or something.

I've noticed the same thing in my car. I use mostly the A/C right now (I just got the car three weeks ago so I really don't know if it does it with the heater on) and I can smell it strong sometimes and not at all other times. I've thought about spraying Lysol (it kills stuff like that) into the air system intake (NOT the engine intake of course). Do '95 models have a cabin filter?

NO GUYS, YOU ARE ALL WRONG! its the grotty smell coming from the drivers sweat every time he floors it in the highway and also from the accumulation of different smells from other people (passengers) which deposit in the filter, since the air gets re-circulated through the filter.
but anyways you micht wanna change that filter.
and if that dont work, recharge the air-con (but since you say that smell only comes when you press the EC button it can't be that) so, it has to be the filter.
just change it.

I have the same problem with my '98

It's only when the heat is on. I figured it was built up water, but I'm going to check my filter as well.
