Take out the cabin air filter. I bet it's filled with leaves and other debris. The blower motor probably also has leaves and things in it. So when the motor has been on and begins to heat up, the debris will catch fire. I'd get everything cleaned immediately.

I'm not sure where the cabin filter is

Sorry for taking a terribly long time to get back to you, but your patients will be rewarded. I attached a few pages from my Hayne's manual as a PDF. The first 2 pages speak about the actual blower motor. You can check that for debris if you want. The 3rd page talks about getting the pollen filter out (I'd check the filter first). If it's black or looks terrible, get a new one. Also, take careful note of how you removed it, because it's a bit of a trick to get back in. This whole process involves putting yourself in some weird physical positions to access everything.
Also, the pages in the manual keep referring to something called a "lower facia." All that is, is the big black plastic cover situated under the glove box (in the passenger foot area). The plastic piece has probably hundreds of holes in it, so you won't miss it. To take it off, just take out the 3 screws at the front of it. Be careful not to lose any of the metal clips that the screws go into though. Then you can just pull the thing out. You might have to maneuver it a bit strangely to get out, but you'll be able to.

If, after cleaning any debris out of the blower motor and changing the filter, there is still that smell, then we'll have to do some more problem shooting. Let us know what happens and good luck!
