AMG exhaust for '94 C280

Does anyone know where I can buy an AMG exhaust for my older C280?

Autoclass.net has one listed, but it is for '97 and newer. Is it just the tips that are different?

I am leaning towards the AMG because I want something that is QUIET! If anyone has a cheaper suggestion, please let me know.

Go flowmaster with AMG tips from the dealer, you'll spend about the same but it will make a nice difference on the sound, AMG mufflers are not louder than exhaust on your car since they require more exhaust flow, and even if you match the exhaust flow from an AMG engine it won't be too loud either.

u should be able to use one...since u are looking for something quiet. ask ur local dealer...sometimes the internet companies miss things. my friend had a 95 c280...and he fit an amg exhaust no problem.

Oops, I guess I didn't read the part where you say you don't want something louder :o

Then why don't you just put some nice exhaust tips and leave the mufler alone?

If you just want the look, I would just do that. It's not like an exhuast will give you more than 2 horsepower anyway.

Exactly my point.

Parts dept showed me these exhaust tips, about 5" wide oval, about 12" long, AMG engraved, chrome, beautiful tips for about $200.00 each. Those would look great in any car!

Yeah, that's way too much for tips. Just go to a muffler shop and get some that look like the AMG one's for 20 bucks. They can probably weld them on for you and you'd be out the door only spending somewhere around 50.

Thanks for the ideas. Actually, tips were exactly what I was thinking. If the stock muffler would cooperate...

I've been to 4 different muffler/performance-type shops in my area and they all said, with the sharp bends, down turned tips and close quarters of the stock tail pipes, its not that easy. They would have to hack off the down turns, custom cut a $20 oval to fit the stubs, and backfill the holes between the two pipes and the oval with metal. To get enough room to do all this, they would have to remove the muffler. All of this monkeying adds up to a couple hundred $.

On top of that, R&R'ing a 9 years old muffler just isn't a good idea. It looks in good shape, but if there are any hidden rust spots, the torqueing and tweaking necessary to remove it could render it junk. Or, at least cause it to prematurely develop a leak in a few months. Left untouched, it might last 5 to 10 more years.

Buying a new factory muffler to go thru this exercise really goes against my grain. And the bill is approaching $500 - about the cost of a real exhaust.

Hence my question. I've heard the AMG is the quietest of the bunch, but I'm afraid to even ask the local MB dealer how much they want for one.

Thank you, but actually you are the second to welcome me

I was going to get a 2002 C32 instead of the 1999 E55, but size convinced me.
