Thumbs up Pistons, Rods & Headwork… Oh My!!!

My pistons & rods have finally arrived! I must admit it's been a looooong and painful wait. Fortunately, just looking at these parts reassures me that they were worth the wait. Besides it's not like we had nothing to do. In the meantime we have reworked the head and bored & honed the block. I’m still waiting for Crower to deliver on some custom-built high tension valve-springs with titanium retainers. However, we can at least we can get the short-block together and do some more prep-work while we wait.

Sweeeeeet!

I love your car and the originallity of it but I almost feel bad you didn't start with a C280. Next time I see a granny driving 30mph in her C280 I'm going to steal her car and send it to you. You just send her your 220 and she won't even notice. So how do you know about all this? I don't even want to know what it cost. Well, yeah I do. I can't wait to see some Dyno sheets. That would be funny if you beat a C36! Oh me.....

Hi Doug,

I was already on par/beating a C36's performance (at least in the quarter mile) prior to doing this new rebuild.

I expect to be in the low 13 second range (hopefully even high 12's) when I'm done with all this.

Questions

JasonH,

How will all this work in your car compatibly with your car's ECU? You must be modifying not only the mechanics of your car's engine, but the computers, chips, and sensors on your C220! By the way, what will be the estimated horsepower once your done modifying your car? I also hope that you get your car dyno tested once all this is done as well...

I wonder if you'll have more horsepower than a C43 (w202) and what your car's top speed will be?

Another concern I have is the reliability of your car?! If this is not an issue, I suppose then that this car is simply for track use only.

Jano,

I have a perfectpower SMT5i piggyback system that allows me to modify fueling, timing, and run a seperate 5th injector among many many other things... all with my laptop.

I was pushing 241 @ wheels (possibly 260-270@ crank?) prior to this rebuild at 9psi. I intend to run 15psi at the track once this is done, so likely will be well into 300HP (I'm thinking around 320).

However we are building the tolerances for longevity and relaibility as well. If I get the fueling right throughout the boost curve, it should go for well over 100,000.

The mudflaps came on the car. You can get them from MB or your dealer. I left them on because... well... I kinda grew to like them... and since it rains quite a bit here they are very functional.

Jason, I would like to know more about the SMT5 or SMT6, will it fit my car. Presuming I only add this piggyback system onto my stock C180, will it make a different on low end torque ?

It should if you get the car dynotuned when you install it as suggested.

For more info check:

Thumbs up

I sure wish I had a manual tranny, but unfortunately it's a slush box. As far as I know MB did not offer a manual in the US for the W202's. I'm sure a few people may have special ordered it like you can with the newer C. However, I have never even heard of anyone with a manual W202 here.

At this point if I did a conversion, the cost on this project would be totally out of hand, so I guess I'll have to stick with the slushee for now.

As far as the engine parts & where I got them goes... depends on the part. Most of the info should be out on the website:

www.turbobenz.com

If you have a question about a particular part that's not listed out there just ask

Jason
