C220 vs C230 (Opinions Needed)
I have the opportunity to trade our C220 for a C230 Kompressor but am running in circles trying to make up my mind.
I've owned my C220 for 1.5 years & so far it's proven to be very reliable & almost care-free.
As a daily driver/commuter it gets 9/10.
As an automotive enthusiast it gets 2/10.
The C230 drives a lot more peppier thanks to the Eaton supercharger, the low mileage is huge selling point & its still the same reliable platform I'm used to.
However, if it wasn't for it's accident history I wouldn't even be posting this thread.
If the purchase is made, the C220 gets sold to my uncle which means I break even or profit.
1995 C220 (Current Daily Driver)
Good
- 130,000 km's
- dealer serviced
- clean accident history
Bad
- front timing cover leaking (big repair)
- most suspension components are getting/are worn (ball joints, control arm bushings, struts, etc.)
- gutless engine (bore to drive)
- parking lot damage on every corner (previous owner)

1999 C230 Kompressor (Possible Replacement)
Good
- 50,000 km's
- dealer serviced
- same engine but supercharged
- clean body (no scratches/scuffs seen)
Bad
- poor accident history ($14,000 & $8,000 claims)
- tan on tan (very Camry-ish)

You also do not know the maintenance that was done on the c230k, nor do you truly know the extent of the accident history. In other words, reliability (imo) is already out the window. It seems that your c220 is proving to be ultimately reliable, so why not just wait a few more years, and buy a better car? If you REALLY want a w202 platform still, i'd suggest a low mileage c36 or c43. But even then, you'll still be left wanting more after a few more months.
