differences between standard trim and AMG trim

im considering buying a w202 c-class, and the c36 AMG is very appealing.

what are the differences between the standard trim and AMG trim besides the rims and the motor?

ALSO... do any w202's come in manual tranny? which ones?

thanks!

The 202 C36 AMG also has a different front, rear, and side fascias, a different instrument cluster with a white background, and other miscellaneous interior trim pieces. No American market 202 ever came with a manual transmission, although they are popular in Europe.

I'm not sure, but maybe the 1994 C220 came with a 5-speed here, but I do know that every C-class from MY 1995 on has had an automatic

would it even be worth it to buy a standard c-class 202 and slam it, put some AMG rims, and maybe a bodykit and try to work with that?

That could work. There are really nice body kits and rims for the W202 C-class, although I wouldn't put an AMG body kit and rims on a MB that isn't a real AMG model, just personal preference. If you're looking to mod the engine go with the C230 Kompressor. With a larger pulley, exhaust, and intake, that engine will have around 220 HP. So yeah IMO, it would be worth it, to mod a W202 C-class.

I have never seen any 202 with a manual transmission here in the States. I've never even heard of one outside of Europe. The C220 had the 722.4 automatic transmission. One way around this would be to find a manual transmission from an early 90's 300SL. Those are hard to find, but the manual transmission in that car will bolt up to any other Benz with the 104 motor, including the pre-'98 C280 and any C36.

Reliability shouldn't be a concern with the C280. It might be a factor with the C36 though, due to it's higher power output. As far as a price, your guess is as good as mine. I don't know how much a manual trans from a 300SL goes for, or even where you would be able to find one. They are quite rare.

standard transm.

Wow, manual on w202. would any of you be interested in obtaining the 300sl transmission to do the swap? hopefully the c36's torgue is still doable for that transm.

From '94 to present, only the SLK and C-class(2001-2002) have had manual transmissions. This is just in America, mind you. Europe has had S-classes (140) with manual transmissions, something unheard of here.

Yeah, but on cars with smaller engines like the S280 and S320.

G'day

My information has it that AMG has never had a manual (optional or otherwise) available in its vehicles in the W202 series. The C36 came had a 4 speed auto ( AMG enhanced) with the later C43 having a 5 speed auto, again AMG enhanced.

In general W202 series vehicles in Europe could be optioned with a 5 speed manual, as could the lower spec vehicles here in Australia.
