1998 C280 Sport Questions
First of all, I went to go replace my 3rd brake light bulb the other day because it has failed very recently and I'm not into getting tickets anymore.
Much to my surprise after buying the ridiculous 23$ Halogen bulb from the dealer, I find that my 3rd brake light assembly is indeed MB branded but has a LED light assembly within it as opposed to the halogen.
My question is, does anyone else know what this LED 3rd brake light is? I heard rumblings that this was offered on the w202 face-lift models, but I've no actual confirmation. The dealership is at a loss and said it must be aftermarket. I can find no such aftermarket light anywhere I've looked on the web.
Secondly, and less importantly, does anyone have these wheels? They are 16x7.5 w203 C-Class rims. I'm interested in their bare weight and whether or not anyone has a set they're wanting to let go of.
Thanks!
Finally, my cruise control stalk is broken. Does anyone know if this module is one piece with the turn signal stalk (as the dealer says) or if it can be ordered/replaced separately?

Hi,
you can buy the cruise control stick seperatly..of course.
By Mercedes you can all parts ordered seperatly.
It is not one part within the turning signal stick.
The 203 rims are fine looks really good.
What´s the meaning of the 3rd brake light?
You mean the brake light in the middle of the headrests?
A bulb cost´s 23$ by your dealer? Wow..
I got a few from those..laying overall here in my garage
Best regards

Thanks Sniper. My dealer said they can't be ordered separately, so that is odd.
Yes, they look very good. I just can't find anyone that has a set they're selling.
3rd Brake Light is the one between headrests, yes. On my car it is LED, not bulb.

I thought so too, but I've looked everywhere for them and I can't find them on German Ebay, US ebay, or any parts website.
I've heard that some of the post-facelift w202 had LED 3rd brake lights, but I don't have confirmation.

Here is the assembly disassembled \
The outside is in fact an OEM mercedes part with the 202 partnumber:
ZB-HBL 02589 (E1) S3
202 820 08 56
295 000 K4-2337
The gray insert has no markings on it what-so-ever, but is an array of surface mount LEDs with 5 inline micro-fuses. I tested all the fuses and 4/5 came out to be 15ohm, whilst the 5th came out to be 37ohm. I'm going to have to assume that one is blown/defective.
Off to radioshack to see if I can fix this thing.

The grey insert with the LED´s is homemade.. but very good.
Think you got a prototype of it
Normaly there is an housing with an bulb in it..
Now my epc doesnt work.. shi*
Took the number of that part later in this thread..
Now it works..
you need A2108200356 (Holder for the bulb)
and the console A2028260031
and last A1408260524 ... the cover
best regards

Thanks sniper. I'll keep that on file if I can't end up fixing this.
I thought it was homemade too until I looked at the circuit board. It is a Printed Circuit Board with traces in it. Its definitely far beyond what most home users can make.
This thing is REALLY awesome. I wish I knew where it was from so I could get more. I want to do this to my w124 :\

In my 2000 C230k, my third brake light is composed of 10 LED lights (2 lines of 5 LED lights horizontal) made by Hella. I believe this is factory MB and not aftermarket.

Hm, mine is slightly different. 7 Surface mount LEDs up top, and 8 Surface mount LEDs on the bottom row.
I found a shop that can do surfacemount work and I ordered the SM4004 (glass passivated rectifyer) that had 0 continuity, so I'm hoping 2$ in parts and 20$ in labor will get this thing fixed.
