C280 Sunroof

Looking for some assistance. I just purchased my first MB, a 1999 C280, I've had it for about 10 days. Yesterday, I opened the power sunroof, and my first problem occured. I was unable to close it back up. The motor seems to open it fine, but fails to close it. I was able to close it with the manual crank, though. It was working fine up until yesterday. Is this enough information to guess at what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to this crazy place. The sunroof on my 190E did that about a year ago. The cable got twisted around the gears in the motor. I ended up having to replace the cable and the motor. The only thing I know of that's different between the W201 sunroof and the W202 sunroof is the motor location.

Just so you know, W201 is the chassis # for the 190 Class and W202 is the chassis # for the 1994-2000 C Class.

Actually, it's a little simpler then that

The issue is that your sunroof is off it's track. It's happened 3 times on my '98 C230 and the dealer will fix it for free. For now, as a short term solution . . pop the clear dome light cover off and use the allen wrench that should be in your truck with your tire tools and wrench it shut. That way it'll be closed, but don't open again until after you get it serviced. Be sure not to strip the bolt with the allen wrench!! If you'd prefer . . call roadside assitance to come and wrench it for you. Overall, it's a problem that they refuse to recognize and recall.

i know that it is very very very easy to reprogram. that has happened to me before, where u haveta close it by using the same controls to open the little slot....call 1-800-MERCEDES and ask how they reprogram your sunroof. i know they hold the button down for a certain amount of time, turn off then on the car, and boom its back to normal. like litterally a 10 second process.

that happened to me once, day before valentines day. i opened up the sunroof for a little while on my way to get flowers and chocolates, but then when i got onto the highway, it was freezing lol. so when i got to the mall i got the crank and shut it manually. i tried opening it and closing it later on that night and it seemed fine. i remember that was the time where the voltage of the car seemed really weak at times, and whenever i would turn on something, things would start to fade or die out in the car. so then i got the battery replaced and everything seems to be fine now. so i dont know, maybe perhaps check the battery is just a little suggestion?

Thanks for all of the input, it's very helpful. I spoke to the Infiniti dealer I bought the car from. He sent me to a Mercedes/BMW specialist that does work for them. The specialist plugged in a code scanner, and retrieved a code that signified a communication problem between the computer and the sunroof. He said he has seen it happen before a couple of times, but didn't know what causes it. He "reset" the computer, and the sunroof is working again.....sort of. It seems that my remote key *should* unlock all of the doors, and open the windows and sunroof. It will open the windows, but not the sunroof. Also, it will not close the windows once they are open. He suggested that the remote key is not sending all of the necessary codes, or the car is not picking up all of the codes, assuming that the remote is sending them properly. Other than that, he said the battery is a little weak, which is probably unrelated. He siad I should have the dealer check/reprogram the key to send all of the proper codes, and go from there. Any of this sound familiar to anyone out there?
