can you guys please explain this mityvac process? ive changed my own oil in all my past cars, but all i have had to pick up from the store was oil, filters, a funnel, and a bucket... no "mityvac."

im not trying to poke fun or anything, i really wanna know. if changing the oil in our cars is a different and im gonna need some type of device to complete the process, can you please fill the rest of us in on exactly what we need and how to go about it?

is there a writeup already out there? i didnt know changing the oil in a benz was so complicated...

1994 C220
I'm sure it depends on what benz you've got, on mine for instance ('94 C220) a special socket is needed to screw/unscrew the oil filter assembley. Once the filter assembley is out, I have to replace the old paper filter element and a couple of O-rings. It's not the typical replacable screw-type filter used in a lot of other cars. To drain the oil, on my car there is a standard plug on the bottom of the engine, but it is much easier to suck the oil out through the oil fill hole on top. A suction device like a "topsider" is needed for this.

Mercedes makes a maintenance manual that details oil change procedures as well as other common tasks, I got mine for around 20 bucks I think through Mercedes. The book covers a lot of models built from 1994 on up. The number on the cover (part #?)is S-2389-CUS.

It's not hard to do an oil change on a Benz, just different than most other cars out there. I think this is why people say not to go to Jiffy Lube or whatever with a Benz, because those guys may not be too familiar with how to do it right on your car.

the mityvac is a pump attached to a container and has a long shaft which you insert through the oil fill hole on the top of the car engine. so u dont need to crawl under the car to unscrew the plug and drain it with a bucket.
so when u pump it, the vacuum created inside the mityvac sucks all the oil in the engine. its a faster and cleaner way to change ur oil. the only downside to this is that not all of the oil is sucked and you may leave some behind in the engine.
