It is a simple job taking five minutes (I can do one in about 2 minutes now...) and the filter is not very expensive either.
(If the filter is clogged, the air you breathe won't be more contaminated, because there is no bypass like in an oil filter.)

just changed mine and DAMN was my old one dirty. BLACK on one side with crap inbetween the filter element and the other side was white for the most part.
I think the new filters have charcoal in them? it was significantly heavier than the one i pulled out and one of the sides looked like charcoal bits weaved into the filter.
