I bought a used 1996 w202. shortly after the a/c compressor went out. then one day when I was about to leave for the day the car would start then die. I started it and gave it a little gas and smoke started pouring from the engine. I lifted hood to see it was my belt where the a/c compressor locked up. I have ordered a new compressor with clutch and wanting to repair myself but having trouble finding helpful guidance or instructions for the steps I need to take to replace the a/c compressor. Does anyone know where I can go to get this so that I do not miss something? Thanks!

 

You can change just the a/c clutch!!!!! Their is a single bolt in the dead center on the front of the a/c assembley!! Keep in mind their is a retaining clip that holds the clutch onto the shaft!! It is on the very outter edge!! I didn't realize this and broke the retaining grove off the shaft. Had to replace the whole a/c comp then!! Don't make my mistake!! The clutch can be bought seperatly. Now once this is removed see if the comp shaft is froze solid and won't move. If this is the case a new comp will more than likely be needed. Hope this helps.

 

Sorry I have a 96 c280, with the m104 motor. Maybe yours is the same.
