C280 Build Thread

So I got this C280 free from my Girlfriends brother. He said if I could get it running I could have it. So I've decided to not only get it running, but also do some modifications/modernizing to it. So here goes.
Picking It up!

Under the hood

Washed it up

Got it on the lift

It had a bad missfire

#6 Plug

More to come..

So moving on to other projects while the head is being machined.
I'm doing a color change and re-upholstering the interior

Dying the carpet black, had my garage helper do some carpet cleaning first. haha

Also going to put the DuraFlex CRS Body kit on. The original front and rear bumper were both pretty damaged.

Garage helper posing for the camera..

Okay, today's progress
Got my Set of D2 Coil Overs, I've read mixed reviews on these, but I don't plan on racing basically just wanted the ride height adjustment feature they offered. The instructions with this kit are very lacking. Basically just an exploded view of the shocks and how they go together. Nothing else. Called D2's California office and was told by the "support person" that they don't include instructions because the kit is meant to be installed by a professional. And that they didn't want "people who didn't know what they were doing" to installed them improperly and brake things. So needless to say I wasn't impressed with their instructions or support. But anyway, on we go!

The installation process on the rear was pretty straight forward. remove old spring and shocks. (using a chain for safety here)

Spring and Shock Removed

Here is the Ride Height Adjustment part installed

D2 Spring installed.

according to the instructions about 1/3 of the rod should be inside the shock at desired ride height so I made this mark with paint pen to help me identify that measurement.

And finally the shock is installed.

after both rears were installed the ride height looked like this.

And here's the Dampening adjustment.

We were headed out on the town Friday Night, and since my Garage Helper didn't help me put the coil overs on, she had to come inspect my work before we left.

Found out my girlfriends Mom had a bad *** embroidery machine. So got a Mercedes logo and digitized it and now testing the machine and logo on some scrap material. Plan on putting it on the head rests when I redo them.

Here's a couple videos of the machine in action. Pretty cool!
also had a full test run of the embroidered headrest logo. I think I'm going to go with a different logo. Maybe just the star, or maybe the old 1909 oval logo.

been raining and lotsa storms here lately, so I've been workin' in the house. Got my trunk spoiler in yesterday, so I decided it would be the first victim of the vinyl wrap. here's how it turned out.

On the bottom of the trunk lid, or should I say on the top of that bumper where it meets the bottom of the trunk area, what are you going to do about that ripple effect?

Oh, that's a DruaFlex AMG Clone bumper cover, it's just test mounted right now, it'll be smooth when it's fully mounted.

One question about the rear spoiler and the resistor you mentioned...where do I put that, do I unplug the original third light and stick it in the plug? and what size resistor? I got my spoiler from the same place, only I requested that they use bolts and the 3M double sided tape (no extra charge), I didn't want that spoiler coming loose, I had a sun roof deflector w/only 3M and it popped off on the freeway and I lost that thing glad it didn't hit one or anything.

haven't gotten much done lately, been having bad storms around here. Anyway ordered some more parts, and painted the door seals black with some SEM vinyl, plastic, leather, carpet paint.

Ordered some H&R Wheel Spacers to get my rear wheels to flush up a little better.

That headliner looks familiar. I don't think I would have brought it inside, that yellow sticky foam gets on everything and is a bugger to get off. Will like to see how you handle the rear C pillars, they were impossible for me to do in one piece with the material I had used. Great thread.
