Why is it depressing? We all knew when we bought our cars that they were not race cars or even sports cars. I actually think the figures for the AMG versions are quite good considering that it is a 4-door sedan and not a 2 seat sportster. Even with the AMG tuning, you have to admit that Mercedes was not designing these cars purely for speed and performance. If that's what you wanted, then you should have bought a Porsche or Ferrari. MB was designing a quality compact sedan. If some versions happen to go fast, then that makes them even better.

Even the numbes for the regular C Class variants aren't too bad. My 280 will beat alot of cars off the line and it is fast enough for what I need it for. What do the numbers for Toyota & Ford look like? How about Hyundai, Daewoo, or Kia - would you rather be driving one of those? (0-60 in 10 sec w/ no style???)

I'm not trying to get on your case or anything, but I look at the rest of the cars on the road and feel lucky that I am able to drive a Mercedes and not just a Chevy. Taken for what it is meant to be, I think it's a great car.

I have no problem at all with the quickness of my C 280. I didn't expect to have a race car on my hands when I got it. Those really aren't bad figures for everyday driving.

Do we have any numbers for a 1998-2000 C280 (V6 and 5 speed) w/ sport package ?

Also, maybe some numbers from people who have done some mods to a 230k or 280...

I believe the average time for a 1998 C280 was something like 7.5 sec. 0-60.

One problem is the three slow auto shifts before 60...BMWs only shift twice ,I believe (so we lose like .5 secs or something doing that extra shift, damn).

different tester have different times. The most recent for the C32 is 0-60 in 4.77 second and 13.24@106.86mph by Motor Trend.

yes, it really does depend on the people doing the test. if they were like mercedes, testing the acceleration very carefully and as safetly as possible, the results would result in slower times. i have a 98 c280 and i can guarantee that it can do mid-7s, stock
