do you have the correct drivers to install it or what? can you hook up your ecu to the "internet" to download drivers, cuz if not then we're going to need to mod your car with a modem.

Chevrolet Chevette, Ford Pinto, Pontiac Aztek, Trabant, Yugo GV (and all the worst cars ever built)
GDawgC220,

Like any mechanical or electrical equipment, a car's components have finite lives. One cannot really expect the components to last a long time and as it ages, so does the correlation for repair incidents and of course, the cost for maintenance. With all respects to you, it is inevitable, the car components will break down and so will the car.

Now clearly there are certain years and models that have a high incidence of repair and maintenance issues and everyone here can provide you with a good indication of what those models are for all of us to avoid.

But as car owners, we should realize that the joy and experience of owning a mercedes or any other "high cachet" car does not stop and end behind the driver's seat at 110 mph. Many people are born to drive and have no thumbs when it comes to tools but many people (a good example is Steve from the Netherlands) get a big kick from working with their cars and understanding how it ticks, short of being a certified MB mechanic. It is from their knowledge that we get the most out of these forums.

I guess my point is - I am not saying you should roll-up your sleeves and try to dismantle your rear differential but you should take your car's temperament with a grain of salt. I can see that your car has lived a life of more than 100,000 miles, an age that many a japanese and korean car would never reach. Be happy that the dealer can still fix it and not condemn it.

For the past two weeks, with the help of many invaluable members of this forum, I installed a navigation system in my five year old MB. Removing half the dash and putting it back was more a satisfying experience for me as driving down the I-95 at 120 mph. What makes it even more worthwhile is that the nav is working perfectly alright and I have no experience whatsover with car tools and electronics. A month ago I didn't even know what a din cage was.

Good luck and I hope you solve your problems...

I thank you for your comment. Now, I just enjoy my car and trying to get the most out of it. I realize that with age and such, things will break down, just annoying that they all happen within two years of me owning it and to spend that amount of money ($8,000 over two years) is a lot of a college student.

I have pretty much everything fixed except for the leak now, which is slowing down A LOT , which is good news to me, I think. My service advisor knows where I'm coming from and cannot keep affording to dump thousands of dollars into the car. He even gave me a honest answer on the leaking main seal that it can go for another 50,000-60,000 miles, I just have to keep an eye on the oil level. At the rate it's leaking, it's not much for overnight drips, maybe 3 drops at most, leaving the pavement with an oil stain not much more sized than a U.S. quarter.

I also do enjoy this forums and the help of people on here. I too have learned some things about taking things apart in my car to do stuff (like hardwiring my radar detector, had to take apart the console and such). It's fun learning about your own car and how it works, I hope someday I can learn some things , but right now, I just don't have the time being a fulltime student.

Cool dude.

I want to know how you dumped 8 grand into your car as a college student. I just payed 390 for a service and to fix my check engine light and now I'm broke again.
