Question please advise: which model?

I am trying ot figure out just what kind of car I want to get, and thought about a C-class, but I don't really know the differences in the models and years. Was there some change in 1998? (I'm not referring to the W203) What about the differences in price and performance between a C230 Kompressor and a C280 or C280 Sport? I don't think I can afford a C36 or C43 or whatever the AMG models are. Are there any common problems that I should keep an eye out for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as well as a link to any site with C-class upgrades, such as body kits, lights, grilles, or anything else thats cool
Thanks a lot,
Criss

in 1998, there were cosmetic changes. the bumpers from pre-98 don't fit on 98-on. taillights were given a smoke treatment. i haven't heard real significant problems with this platform. as for 230k vs 280, i think their performance were almost identical. if u're gonna go for aftermarket parts, like suspension parts, body-kits, then i suggest u get the non-sport model, as those sports parts will be replaced by yourself. amg's own body kits are quite classy. i've heard kleeman's speed-sensitive suspension is quite something (https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&threadid=4272).

thanx

i checked out those sites, but the Kleemann url was mistyped. i searched for it, and its http://www.kleemannusa.com/ in case anyone else wanted to check the site out too. its still under construction, but looks like a cool company. they dont have a lot of w202 stuff, but neither does brabus, or lorinser, or a lot of others. for anyone who cares, i liked www.cecwheels.com. also, does anyone else know of any sites that sell bodykits for the w202? i know a lot fo them DID, but on the main company sites, they dont show it anymore. any online shops that carry the older kits would be great (like cec). thanx

KLEEMANN C230K
Hoov, got your email.

I have the KLEEMANN pulley kit on my c230k, and I love it. As I'm sure anyone on this forum will tell you, 'cause I boast all the time. There are a few other companies that sell pulleys for the 230k, and you should check them all out before you decide whether you want the 230k or the 280, as you will find out there is less available for the 280 than the 230k.

I'm working on some pics for ya.

John.

95 C36
there are alot of differences between the 202 models, first off, i have a 95 C36 that i am selling, i am a factory benz tech and the car is in excellent condition, i am asking 20, 000 or best offer, the c classes from 94-97 came with 2.2 to 2.3 liter fours and 2.8 liter inline sixes, i would not recommend a 220 or 230 unless you plan on using it just for commuting, options varied by year and model, 98-2000 models came with the 2.3 supercharged motor and a 2.8 liter v6, these cars received a significant upgrade in the body electronics and also have the smart keys. the amg cars all have full leather interiors and all the go fast upgrades. the c36 has a bore and stroked c280 motor, different head, exhaust, front brakes from a sl600, rear brakes from a e420, these are factory race cars, please let me know if you are interested in the car, i live in the northeast part of maryland.

thanks for the offer, but thats just a little too high for my current price range. i was looking to spend 12k or less (gotta leave room for mods ), and i have access to wholesale auctions, so i think im going to look for a '98 c280. i am also looking at the lexus sc400 (i know they're TOTALLY different cars, but i just can't decide). thanks to all who posted replies, and if you come up with anything else, i'd be happy to hear it.

the websites often don't post things for past models...they used to be choke full of products for the w202. now, they're all shifted to the w203. i'm sure if u'd give them a call, they'd be more than happy to provide u with a list of possible mods/options for the w202
