Bilsteins - has anyone tried them?

I know most C Coupes have rather low mileage to be concerned about shocks/struts, but... has anyone tried to replace the stock setup with Bilsteins?

I'd like to improve handling of my Coupe, and one thing that will be replaced for sure is anti-sway bars. Not certain about the dampers, though. Any opinions will be much appreciated.

We prefer to put Koni Adjustables on our Mercedes due to the smoother ride compared to Bilsteins. If you want the best, Kleemann shocks by far outperform and provide a much more comfortable ride than either Koni's or Bilsteins.

C32 AMG
I know that most MB tuners use them for their suspension kits. Brabus for one uses bilsteins that are custom valved for their springs. I believe that Carlsson does the same. Most suspension shops recommend using them with H&R springs if you don't purchase a cup kit or coilovers. Depending on your vehicle, you should always upgrade your dampers (shocks) if you change springs. I've been told that the only exception is if you have an AMG benz, the AMG dampers are actually better than what would come with a cupkit since they compensate for the increased engine weight. Again this is not my opinion but what I've been told. I did alot of research before changing my suspension. Hope this helpd.

BTW, i heard that Kleemans are good too. I just could not deal with the pink color.

The stock struts and shocks on the C230K (203) do not have any rebound control. I would bet that if made a change to any of the afore mentoned shock and strut set you would be pleased.

The Kleemanns are awesome (If anyone wants a demonstration feel free to call). And the shocks are gold/titanium colored, not pink!

Thanks to everyone for your input.

Ben, are you saying that Kleemanns compared to Bilsteins provide softer ride AND better performance at the same time? How is this possible?

Yes, I'm saying that the Kleemanns outperform all other shocks (for mb) that I have heard of in both comfort and performance. The Kleemann shocks use multiple variable aperatures which allows them to react differently to each and every stress placed upon them depending on the level of intensity and rate at which it occurs. The result is a ride that is more comfortable than stock (in my CLK430) as well as one that outperformed our E55 by over 10 mph on a turn on at Willow Springs Raceway (120 tight and completely stable (E320K, didn't have the power to take the turn faster) vs 110 wide) with Evosport Stage I Suspension (H&R/Koni Adj set to firm).

The Bilsteins that AMG uses are of no comparison to the Kleemann shocks. Kleemann's website is:Kleemann
Their write up on their suspension says:
KLEEMANN Suspension Systems
The KLEEMANN Speed Sensitive Sport Suspension systems utilize CNC precision wound springs that are shot peened, phosphate treated and powder coated. They are true progressive rate springs, providing a comfortable ride while reducing body roll and lowering the vehicles center of gravity.

Giving the car the ultimate in handling are the very innovative Speed Sensitive dampers, providing performance unlike any other damper can offer!

High pressure nitrogen gas charge and Variable Aperture technology allows the KLEEMANN damper to have a variety of compression and rebound rates. The quicker and farther the damper is compressed, the stiffer it becomes.

The end result is a suspension that performs like no other, giving a comfortable ride on the street, while providing unmatched handling dynamics during spirited driving.

If you're ever in Southern, CA, I'd be happy to give you, or anyone, a demonstration.

No problem. There is a show this Saturday in Huntington Beach (approx 25 miles South of LA) if you feel like coming down. Or, if you want to make your trip more worthwhile, you can wait a week or two until my Kleemann Supercharger is on my car .

Very intriguing... Now, do they make them for the C Coupe? Do they require a special spring set or can they work with the stock springs?

Any info on pricing and distributors in Wash. DC area?

While at it, any recommendations regarding thicker anti-sway bars?

Thanks in advance.

C230 Kompressor Sports Coupe
So how much will the kleemans cost (parts and labour)? Also, what parts are changed out (dampers, springs, etc.)?

The complete Kleemann Suspension system includes both springs and Speed Sensitive Shocks. Labor varies from place to place depending on where you have it installed, but expect typically between $300-$400 w/ alignment if necessary. For a complete list of Kleemann Suspension pricing, please visit: http://www.evosport.com/product/susp....html#kleemann
