rattle on passenger side

I have a rattle in my 1994 c280 that comes after I hit 65-70. It sounds like it is coming from the dash area, or the glovebox area. I can not locate where it's coming from. Nothing seems loose when I feel around. I had my wife in the car and she heard it too but could not locate it.

Has this happened to anybody else? Ideas? It is driving me crazy.

Thanks.

Try this next time your driving and hear the rattle. Put your hand on the shift knob and hold it. If the rattling stops, it could be the bushing that holds your shift knob...pretty easy to replace if it is. Try this and report back.

I had the same problem a few months ago.
Those rattling sounds drove me nuts.

I had the tires balanced and the sound is gone.
Costco will do rotate and balancing for $16 (all 4 tires). Pretty cheap.

$16 is damn cheap. I asked around and it was like $50 for both balance and rotate!

OK thanks. I'll start with the shifter and go from there.

I have one that sounds like it's coming from around the passenger seat area in my 1995. It's a total mystery rattle and it happens just like you were describing. I thought it might be from the seable area over there, but I can't find it and neither can the dealer. You're not alone.

Sorry about your rattle too. The shifter was not the culprit. I am going to have to let my wife drive and I will start applying pressure to things and see if it stops. It kind of sounded like it could be coming from the sunroof today. It is driving me crazy and I can hear it over the radio now. It's not a big deal I guess, I just should not hear anything rattling on my Benz. I'll let you know when I figure it out. Any other ideas/experiences would be great.

Thanks.

May sound crazy, but maybe something dropped underneath the seats or inbetween them? Like sometimes in my car, I'll have a cd jewel case and it slides somewhere and when i'm driving, it's rattling like crazy, annoying the hell of me.

Check that, cuz pretty much, IMO, the w202's are solid construction.

Let us know what you find.

Sometimes when I leave CD's in the door pocket it will rattle just like I am hearing now. I took everything out I saw. Tomorrow I'll dig around under the seat and check some more. It's weird because sometimes it sounded like it was coming from the glove box, and then today it sounded like it was above me on the sunroof. I'll look tomorrow and have my wife take me for a spin too.

oh man, it sounds like you got a rattle bug scattering around your car. you better kill it before it's too late. those things can drive you crazy. i have one in my car it sounds like there's an airleak somewhere around the rear passenger driver's side. i think i checked everything but still can't find it. i'll have to let someone else drive while i ride in the back. only happens when i pass 45mph. any thoughts???
