Angry Please help !! Boot locked

Could somebody please give me some help.
My 98 C200 failed to start 2 days ago (flat battery I presume) so I removed the battery and left it on charge. Unfortunately I shut the boot !! When I tried to open the boot this morning I find its locked. Have tried inserting the manual part of the key but it won't turn. I am basically locked out of the boot. Any ideas ?

Thanks., Bladerunner.

its kinda weird that u cant open the boot not even manually.... sometimes, my boot lid gets stuck (i presume the insulating rubbers just get stuck together) and after i turn the key, push the lock and hear the click, i have to push it harder than normal, and it will open.... its very weird that u cant open ur boot, try that... turn the key both ways and push the lock both ways too....

I can tell you that the Valet Key won't fit into the key hole in my wife's C280. It is too thick. With no other options, you could probably grind/sand the valet key so that it

We have 3 keys:

1 Master Key - on my wife's keychain - squarish head
1 Valet Key - on my keychain - oval head
1 emergency key - stored in a safe place - no head at all.

Ask me how long it took me to explain to my wife why I was going to have to stop by her office to use her key to open the truck, after my laptop was locked in it?

If the trunk is set to locked, the valet key can't be used to gain access. If the trunk is set to "auto," the valet key will unlock the trunk when it is used to unlock the rest of the vehicle.

I suppose you could open the hood, and hook jumper cables (positive to the positive post that is on the left hand front fender, negative to ground) and then use the valet key in the driver's door. Then just press the button on the trunk, and open it as you normally do.

If you have a Master key, you should be able to unlock the trunk. In a BMW forum, a E39 (5 series 97-03) owner had a similar situation and others were commenting that it just took a harder turn of the key to get the lock to open. I do not advocate torquing it to the point of breaking the key, but maby a little more than you have been. I am also a great advocate of "wiggeling" a hesitant key. I try to wiggle in small circles, and have found that this works in many circumstances.

I also liked the previous idea of powering up your car with jumper cables and using the regular door/boot locks to unlock the boot.

BTW I usually leave my boot unlocked, so that if the doors are unlocked, the boot is unlocked. I almost never lock it with the key for the added security. I also never leave my car with valet parking.

I have also tried to open the trunk (boot) w/ a key and it was difficult. I found that I had to get a pair of pliers to hold the key tighter so I was able to move it. Also, try pushing inwards as you turn. (Don't put too much pressure on the Key or you'll break it.)

Thanks to those who replied. I did eventually release my boot (trunk to you Americans), using WD40 and lots of wiggling the key. I reckon the lock had never been turned and was just siezed up.
