2000 C230 Kompressor Rough/Jerk On Downshift or Slowing Down When Car Is Cold
Hey guys!
I have a C230 Kompressor with 167,000 miles
First post here coming from the Club202 Forum! Just wondering if anyone with the 722.6 transmission has experienced this: when the car is cold and especially when the temperature is below 40 degrees the car will upshift fine through all gears fine, but upon slowing down the transmission will downshift pretty hard as if I am being rear ended. Here is what I have noticed about this problem, when the car and fluid gets warm up the downshift is not noticeable anymore as it normally shouldn't be felt (for example after driving on the highway for 10 minutes or so) and also when I keep the gear selector in 3rd gear when coming to a stop this jerk or rough downshift does not occur at all when the car is cold. I am thinking the rough downshift is from 4th to 3rd gear but I am not too sure though. I am also thinking that the problem isn't incredibly severe as it goes away when the car is warm, but I'd like to get this solved as soon as possible!
Here's what I have done thus far to the maintenance of the transmission
1. Pan drop, fluid (used Fuchs Titan 4134 fluid) and filter (Mann), and gasket change @ 150,000 miles (no signs of copper or metal shavings at the bottom of the pan just a sludge like residue at the bottom of the pan, nothing major, everything was properly cleaned and put back together)
2. Drain and fill with same 4134 fluid @ 155,000 miles
3. Drain and fill with same 4134 fluid @ 161,000 miles
The car shifts pretty well but this downshift thing is driving me crazy, can it be related to the conductor plate, pressure regulating springs or pilot bushing? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks guys

I am in the same boat as you. My car has 163K and transmission never serviced before. I dont have any CEL just have a delayed upshift and hard jerk in the 1>2 shift. Did the fluid change made the shifting smoother? I know you mentioned that you get a jerk on downshift. Did you had this problem before the fluid change?

I have the same condition @ 155k mi. The flex disc closest to my transmission is severely worn, as a result upon down shifting it jerks and a metallic click is herd. It is $144 for this part where I am in NV, this maybe your situation. I usually wait till the car is in closed loop( compressor off during idle ) before I'm on my way. Try rotating the drive shaft, feel for play.
