CEL but no side effects? 95 obdI or obdII?

hey, ok i've had a CEL for a while. but i've never had the car idle rough or bad mpg's or anything. no stank from the zaust or anything. all is well. getting 350 to the tank with mixed driving and the occational flooring. anything i should really check into? i had a cone stuf right to teh maf before the light came on

another question is how would i tell if my car's obd I or obd II? it's a 95 c220.

I have that square plug underneath the driver's side dash...not exactly on the steering column, but right next to it. I was under the impression that OBD II didn't get integrated to cars till 96+?

There could be a problem, may not be. But usually the CEL doesn't come on for no reason. Try this, unplug your battery for a few minutes and plug it back in. Start 'er up and drive around. If it comes back on (could be a few miles, but usually a day or so) then there's probably a problem somewhere. If not, then you should be set.

CEL doesn't always affect idle or MPG. It could be valves somewhere or some part of the emissions is f'd up. So if it comes back, may want to get it checked out.

It became mandatory on all cars starting in 1996.
The M-B W 202 class went OBD II in 1995. .

By disconnecting the battery, you are only erasing the memory of the computer temporarily.
If you have a REAL problem, the light will come back on shortly thereafter.

yes your 94 has the earliest version of m/b obdII... not every generic code reader will read 94 cars though... my 95 woks fine with a generic code reader (snap on brand)...

i'm also riding with my cel on. when i got it diagnosed from mercedes they said it was a tranny thingy. they said it was the upshift delay valve. when i asked him do i really need to replace it right away and he said it could be off by milliseconds and won't kill anything but needs to be replaced asap about $400 - $100 for diagnostic. my tranny feels smooth to me so i'm going to get my oil leak fixed 1st. hope this helps

I had that problem and with that prob, it doesn't hold the first two gears when you first start up in the morning. For holding the gears, it warms up the cat converter faster, so now your cat converter isn't working to it's best. If your going for a inspection sticker, may want to drive it around for a while before bringing it in...
