Shifting Past Redline?

i was bored so i decided to drive the car around a little harder than usual

i got to a straightaway and floored it from about 10-20 mph.. kept my foot down at full throttle and initiated the kickdown. the rpms climbed as usual but it didnt shift up. the rpms went to about 6200 rpm before i noticed the car didnt shift and looked at the tach. i immedietly let off the gas and the tranny shifted when the rpms went down to about 5000 revs. why did this happen? at what rev is the rev limiter? i thought it was 6000.

Usually when I floor it and am on the throttle all the way and let the car upshift by itself...it usually shifts right around 5600 RPM's. I haven't experienced it where it wouldn't shift yet.

Rev limiter while driving w202 should be right around 5600-5700 RPM's.

I don't think so...they put it right before redline to protect the engine from being over-revved.

I dont' know how MBZ handles that, but my limiter is 200rpm over the redline!

Mine's about the same as Teck, about 200 over redline. Never had an issue where it wouldn't shift.

be careful when shifting.....for me, hitting the rev limiter one time caused my MAF sensor to go out.
