Question about stock sound system

Hey guys.

I have a 00 c230k (pic below).

I want to get a new deck so that I can play mp3 cds.

However I think I *need* to upgrade the stock system, but I need advice.

Cause when I turn up the bass it's kinda bad. It feels like my small computer sub all the way vs my home theater sub (which is like 3 times as big).

It's like harsh sounding kinda instead of just a STRONG solid bass.

So basically my question is.......do I basically *have* to upgrade the system or what?

Cause this guy I know has a Daewoo (I forget which model) and he just upgraded the deck (it's not a very nice deck either.....like 150$) and his bass and speakers sounds awesome.

Thank you.

PS. I know nothing about audio, as you can proabably tell.

hey, yea stock one sucked. well the front and rear deck speakers are 5 1/4. these speakers really suk even after replacing the head unit. the rear door speakers are 4" i think. u can fit 6 1/2 in the front doors with a little modification to the speaker bracket. very little. ha.

what i did was just add in a 15" sub and NOW a pioneer headunit again...been through 4 head units in 6 months.... and i just have mid and high freq's to the rest of the speakers. sounds good although i want the surround BASS kinda sound now so i might just replace all the speakers.
but yes, stock really sux for a 30k car.....

yea sounds ok with just stock speakers and a sub. u gotta just reduce the bass the the speakers and turn up the bass to the sub and it kinda equals out.

Thanks a lot.

I'm probably going to buy a sub just off some guy on a forum or off ebay or something (because I'm poor).

So can you tell me which size I should get ?? Also (this shows that I have no clue about anything audio) can I basically buy any sub and install it or does it need to have certain things to make it work?

hey, well umm. u need an AMP,. sub box and a sub.
as for wiring, need the audio cable from the headunit to the amp, POS and NEG wires for the amp (sized at 6 guage or depending on amp power), one single like 16 guage Remote wire and a few feet of extra 16 guage speaker wire. well i used 12 guage. ha. i just mounted the amp in the trunk and have a 15" MTX sub with MTX box. i recommend a 12" though. u can start off with the basic entry line subs. like 200 watts or so. enough to be qualified as a weak vibrator. hahaha. or u can go with 2 12's to fill in the space next to the one 12. i started off with one 12.
