EBay worst experience, Need color code!
Hi Folks,
I purchased 1998 C280 from a dealer thru eBay motors in NJ. The car arrived last Friday and Unfortunately the car condition is way far from the seller description and I am really disappointed. The seller claim the car has no signs of any body collision or repair. When I lifted the carpet in the trunk, I saw sign of damage (scrap) in the left side just behind the tail light. I believe the car was repainted to dark blue.
Could anyone tell me where to find the factory color code for this car and how many numbers is the code? I saw metal piece above the radiator with some numbers but not sure is this is one. Any help will be appcrciated
Thanks
Mo

to sure to post the EBAY car guy on here to make sure that EVERYONE knows you did the transaction with. we're all on the same team, and if that dealer could lie once...they'll lie again.

I am trying to return the car back to the dealer, if he’s willing to pay for shipping and refund all my money. I will post more detailed information about the dealer and how he ripped me off as soon as I take care of this problem. I will post a web link to show you some pictures of the undeclared defects on the car shortly.

man thats wrong. see, these gay dealers give dealerships like mine a bad name. we try to be honest and **** like these ruin our sales.
One thing i've noticed on ebay, if there are one of those car-ad listing designers or some listing designer companies and when u email them, they say it's all good, stay away from those dealers.
When i sale my cars, i write my own discriptions like the ones on the link below.
just say you'll sue him, he'll get really scared and buy back your car or work something out with you. Especailly if he is a small dealer.

Thank for the advice, I am going call him tomorrow and ask for full refund and he must arrange for shipping the car. I already lost $665 for shipping the car down to Phx AZ. I will not deal with those pimps again ƒ¼

you're welcome. for future advice to anyone buying a car on ebay, have the car inspected by a profesional, it cost 25 bucks or so. but well worth it. ebay has some links in services.
hope it all goes well for u.

now about your question... the color of the car is a 3 digit code and it is on a metal tag (along with a bunch of other numbers) on the middle of the radiator support.... from the posted pics though i don't thibk the car has been changed in color... can you post more pics of the whole trunk and engine, and also inside the door hinges....
ps i'm pretty sure that one of the plastic pieces in the pic of the spare tire tray belongs to the back of the hood ?!

File and send a complaints to everyone that will listen to you,
BBB, Ebay, FBI internet fraud division, Your Attorney Generals office, Federal Trade Commision Bureau of Consumer Protection, Local Attorney Firm, Its better to over kill, send him a certified letter and show him CC: to all the above, I have done this a few times and for the price of a certified letter, I have had good results, but do this asap, He has to know you are not going away, He has to know that he is dealing with a Pit Bull that is NOT going to back off. GOOD LUCK

ALREFI.......HI, I CHECKED OUT THOSE PICS ON THE LOWER HALF OF THIS THREAD........I AM IN THE AUTOMOTIVE BUSINESS, 20 YEARS IN THE COLLISION INDUSTRY. THAT CAR STILL, BIG TIME STILL HAS REAR UNIBODY DAMAGE, THE FLOOR IS POPPED PRETTY GOOD, THE FRAME RAIL IS KINKED, NO QUESTION. THAT WAS NOT EVEN REPAIRED BY THE LOOKS OF IT. I WOULD TRY TO GET YOUR $$$ BACK IF POSSIBLE. I KNOW IT MAY BE DIFFICULT, GOOD LUCK.

hey, lol yea we try to sell our cars cheap. umm give it a try. we just had another black 98 camry exactly like this one currently on ebay but with a sunroof and 85k miles. we sold that for 6k. these were our 2 try out cars because we mostly deal with wrecked cars and we bought these from a non-wrecked car auction and wanted to see how the response was. so far pretty ok. i've seen 98 camry's go for around 7-8k on ebay. well ppl ask that much.
plus u got leather!!! so count in another few hundred for that and lower miles than ours. give it a try. it costs like 45 bucks to list on ebay. worth a try...

rrfl, (congrats on senior member status) there are people asking 10,9-11,4 for 98 4-cyl's on cars.com. no roof, no leather; for a 6-cyl., the book value is:
Condition Trade-In Value Retail Value
Extra Clean N/A $10,425
Clean $7,305 $9,500
Average $6,325 $8,025
Rough $3,860 $5,550
obviously, it all comes down down to what someone is willing to pay, but if it's fine, your car should get $8500+
