Polishing/Chromifing the Valve cover

hey, how do you polish the Valve cover? i got a c220. i went at it in a small area with a 1500 gritt sand paper as a test out and it came out kinda polished. not as chrome. what process should i go about with this?

or should i just paint the valve cover some colour?
