Michelin Hydroedge...?

I was thinking of getting these tires for my oem wheels. Has anyone heard anything about this tire as in performance and stuff. This tire has a 760 treadwear and its kinda hard to believe but thats what it says. I was also considering on upsizing my tire size on my oem wheel from 195/65/15 to 215/55/15, you guys think its a good idea? Thanks

Your buddy nailed it. +10mm on the width -5% on the profile: 205/60-15 is perfect for the many, many cars that run the lame 195/65-15. (Jetta, Passat, Volvo T70) That keeps the overall height the same and 60-series tires offer great selection and pricing. Usually 60s are the best choice, in this case a beefier tire just carrying the heavy load will be easier for the tires thusly better wear. Much wider is not better though. More likely to hydroplane and the excellent steering feel on your car will be ruined. As for the HydroEdge, I looked at them too for summer-only tires. I am not into the "performance" summer tires, especially ones that wear fast. I live in the Poconos and I would not go out in snow with a tire that has such a high treadwear...more wear=harder rubber=less grip. I have owned nearly every modern tire out there. In 15s I like the Falkens Ziex 512, Consumer Reports best a/s tire. (www.discounttiredirect) If you want to try 205/65-15, like I use on Mom's A6, you can get the Conti Extreme Contacts. not included in the CR report (too new) they really are the best a/s tires in terms of performance. Maybe I can still recommend Dunlop Sport A2s as well. For the record, I use 3 sets of 16 inch wheels, and all have all-seasons. A nice new set for snow, rotated down to intermediates for Fall and Spring, eventually to become summer "smokers" that I can abuse and have fun with. I never throw away a set before belts show.
