you need a set of special tools (cluster hooks), you slide them on each side, twist to latch on and firmly pull out... at least one member made his own tools, but generally you can get them from a dealer p/n: 140 589 02 33 00 cost I think is under $20.

or use a couple allen wrenches. Slide them in the top about 2 inches from the side, turn them enough so they catch on and pull. It's nothing too difficult.

I need to just clean my needles because they are sticking.

Could I just pull it out enough to take the front plastic off ?

Or am I going to have to remove the entire unit to get to the needles?

Thanks.

Not sure, I've never gone that far. Pull it out and take a look. Let me know how it goes because my needles stick too. I just figure it'll be a good excuse if I get pulled over.

This has been great advise. Just what i was looking for. I would like to ask though, this "pulling out" will remove the gauge pod cluster (like I would lke to do) or is it to remove the glass that covers the gauges in the gauge pod cluster?

Without removing it all the way.

Hey you guys thanks for the directions! I just did it and it was so easy. I did it the poor man's way too and used allen wrench (as recommended above) instead of getting the pulling hooks from dealer. Just as a tip, use a pair of pliers to grip the allen wrenches when you pull for a better grip than you could do with your hands. Anyway, it came right out, like you guys said it would. Thanks!!!!

Why did you have to take it out anyway?

Did you have to disconnect anything fromt he transmisison first or no?

OK I used a coat hanger and made my own hooks. It took me all of 2 minutes to get the cluster out.

Now...can somebody please tell me how to get this clear plastic cover off (so I don't break it trying) to clean the needles?

I'd really appreciate it.

I didnt see how to remove lense. I just dealt with an electrical issue behind the pod. I wish I paid attention as to how to remove the lense so I could offer advice. Sorry!

If you have a telescopic steering column then you don't need to remove the steering wheel. If not, it is possible to remove the cluster without taking off the sttering wheel but you will have to do some wiggling to get it out. This could be a risky option as you might scratch the cluster lens. My advice would be to remove the steering wheel.
