ball joints

what would happen if you didn't replace the ball joints? Is there any danger driving with worn ball joints?

thanks

from my experience, worn ball joints make for sloppy steering. Your biggest danger would be the car wandering on the road.

Yep, how true that is. I had them replaced in another car and afterwards it felt very responsive (like a new car).

thanks guys

btw, would worn ball joints make any type of noise? Like when slowly going over bumps (speed bump type)?

Thanks again.

just an update

got them replaced today and just picked up my car. Wow, what a difference...handling is so much better. Much more responsive now @ the wheels.

Also the wheels were balanced and rotated, so that refreshed it a little.

but the bad news is...BENT RIM They balanced it out very close to 0, so the wheel doesn't shake. kinda sux...figured the condition of boston roads, something was bound to happen

the price of the two (front left and right) ball joints were $120 and then $180 for labor...about $300 for the entire thing.

Not bad. I wonder if I should have mine looked at.

PS: Did you have a chance to ask the dealer about those Euro/Coupe door knobs ?

nooo...i keep forgetting

how many miles you have on your w202? if they aren't making squeeking noises or anything like that in the front end, wait till next oil change and ask the tech to take a look @ them.

'94 C220, 125k km. No noise or anything suspicious.
Actually the tech take took an overall look at the powertrain during my last oil change (2000 km ago) and said everything was solid.
I'll ask him specifically about this next time .

I bought those little door lock knobs from Herb Chambers for $1.21 ea. not including tax.

Part # is 123766 00 22 - 7C45 (??)

yes, i did take it to hatch for my repairs...that's where I go now except for the w220 cuz it's still under warranty for another year.

hmmm...I'll check out how much they charge @ hatch and compare with Chambers. Thanks!
