Supercharger Needle Bearing oil change 2000 C230

Had very limited time over thanksgiving but one of my daughters had her 2000 C230K (mostly stuck away from the home due to snow) but did have an hour finally to do some long overdue minor maintenance that I never got around to doing last time she visited in the summer.

Spark plug and wires changed - easy enough and it was good to see the old plugs were burning correctly and they still have life left on them. Used Bosch 7407 plugs and STI-642 wire set from fcp euro.

Supercharger needle bearing fluid change. First time I have done this since picking up the car a couple of years ago, and it was super easy to get access to that 13MM plug by removing the air box. So nice they put that green dot of paint on it - makes it so easy to see. Under 5 mins. When I unscrewed the plug there was a "pufh" sound, like it was under a bit of pressure. Ya that stuff did smell bad - hard to describe other than foul. Had a very dark brown color and thick.
I only was able to suck out about 50mL and filled about 45mL to the bottom of the hole threads. It was quite cold out when I did this, maybe 35F so I did not want to risk any overfilling so made sure to not go beyond the bottom of the threads. Spun the clutch around by hand for a few mins - but the level did not change. That did not seem like enough fluid to me, so sucked it out again (more lighter brown now but still smelled bad) and filled it again - and again about 45mL. Replaced with AcDelco 10-4041 - this is totally clear colored and also thick. Hoping I did not make a mistake on the torque setting, I could not look it up (internet was down at the time from storms) and I could not find it on my copy of the WIS (I'm sure its there - somewhere) so I just used 8NM to tighten it - it felt similar to how easy it came off and that is the lowest my torque wrench goes.

Seal it up and test drove. No issues, no changes in sound when you let that engine open up. I'll need to do some more searches on the fluid quantity expected (and correct torque setting) and access to the bottom drain to totally drain it when she comes back home in a few weeks if I find I'm not getting enough of it out by sucking.

Edit - 10NM is the torque spec, so I'm a tad under torque.

Wish everything on this car that needed work was this easy

Love this forum. Searching found all the answers.
10 NM is the correct torque.
There is only the single combo drain/fill (EPC clearly shows this), so without removing and turning upside down, suction is the only way (others models - may be different).
A full fill is 3.7 fl oz (about 110mL) ( http://www.superchargersonline.com/i...age=page&id=58 )
AcDelco 10-4041 is the correct fluid - other options are the Eaton fluid (about the same price as AcDelco) or MB fluid (very very expensive) and same as the others.
Cold (20C) fill point is to the bottom of the threads - overfilling will cause it to blow out through seals when it gets hots.

So I'm not even getting 1/2 of the fluid out. Most likely it was simply too cold and suction could not pull it out given your hose does not get to the bottom.

Do-over in three weeks (doing it engine and fluid at 20C)

you can always just attach clear tubing to a syringe but it still doesn't get quite all of it out. You can't really overfill it as it will just start to just pour out.

I re-sucked the needle bearing fluid (again) - this time warm. Made no difference, this time I only got about 38mL until I could only suck air. Her car only had maybe 700 miles on it since last time at thanksgiving and the fluid I sucked out was slightly brown and its smell was significantly less than before. Filled it back to the bottom of the inside threads and torqued it to 10NM. Got a 1/4" torque wrench for Christmas and it sure makes these low torque values easy. So I'm only getting a bit over 1/3 of the fluid out, but its so easy to get to multiple suck/fills is no issues. Calling this done. Oh and yes a 2000 C230K is a W202.
