yeah, I'd say that is messed up :p
I would take it to Hatch or call them up to see what they say about it. Other than that, I don't know what else to do. Usually clusters come programmed from where ever the dealer orders them from I believe so...not sure the ones on eBay will do.

GDawg (sorry to lean on you so much but you seem to have all the answers---you're my idol!), how's this one?
cluster
I assume the "black insert" referred to is something I can take from my existing cluster. Also, are the removal tools others are selling necessary?
tools?

As for the cluster removal tools, you can make it yourself...that's what I did when I had to replace a few bulbs behind there. Just take some coat hangers and bend it to the same way. Easy 'nuff and save you some money.
But just by plugging a 'new' cluster back into the car won't show the amount of miles you had before...it must be programmed by a specific computer.
I hope this helps ya man

So far I have had to replace the transmission and the rear-end, hopefully they will last a bit longer this time.

I don't have a W202, but I saw on the other day (1995 C280) that had almost 150k on it. Original motor and trans, the only problem was that the valve seals and guide were worn out, and led to a high oil consumption problem.

its a 98. Bought it in Oct of 2004. I am the 3rd owner of it. The guy who sold it to me originally bought it for his wife I think in 2000 and she drove it maybe 2-4 times while they owned it. Always garaged and in great condition. I thought it was a lucky find.

New to me!
Just bought a 96 c220 with 203,000 miles on it. Yep, I am nervous. The price was good and they claim all freeway miles. (not sure where else you rack up that many miles other than the freeway) If i can get it to drive just one year and die (worse case scenario) ; i still will have the same depreciation after one year as a 2005 c230!! Driving an old 4 banger, gives my anxiety....but nothing like 6 Jazz cds in the changer and a couple Xanax to keep me in line!

very nice!
The w202's are built solid and will run for a long time, pending it's been taken care of and treated right. The inline 4 and tranny are bulletproof!
Seen a few w202's with over 300k miles!

w202
Considering that the 202s are coming up in age -- it'd be interesting to see what the lowest mileage a 202 has too...
i'm just saying

94 C200 Euro-spec & 91 200 CE Euro-spec coupe
Possible low miles Champ
Don't know about the highest mileage, but I bought my 94 C200 (Euro spec) from the original owner, a 78 year old Doctor in Genova, Italy in Dec 2004 with 84,200 Kilometers on the odo. That's just a hair over 50K miles on a 10 year old MB! Actually, low mileage on gasoline powered cars is fairly common here in Italy with gas currently about $6.00 per gallon. Diesel is a little cheaper (just under $5.00/gal) and provides better fuel economy, so diesel cars rack up the miles. My wife's 91 200CE coupe holds 65 liters of gas (16+Gal) and at current exchange rates it costs $100.00 to fill it up! Think about that next time you complain about gas prices in the States
