I think my car is healing itself?!?!?

Recently, my low fuel indicator was blinking, which eventually set off the check engine lamp. Now neither are illuminated.

About 6 months ago, my ventilation system was making a loud ticking noise. It wouldn't stop until I put the fan on a higher setting. Now the noise is gone completely.

About 7 to 8 months ago, I would periodically get a low fuel lamp when I was half full. That hasn't happened again since that time.

When I first got the car, there was a lot of wind noise coming through the driver's side window once the car hit about 75 mph, as if the seal wasn't tight. This eventually dissapeared, and there is no longer any wind noise at speed.

Of course, now that I posted this, the #$@& is going to hit the fan and the car is going to disintegrate from under me...

The humidity of the summer in your area tends to cause seals to absorb moisture and expand, thus fixing various leaks and other symptoms of leaks. Let's see if you get anything back when the air dries out...

I drive the same exact car as you (C280 Sport), except a 1999. The only thing that isn't stock is a set of 16" split-spoke replica wheels that I run in the summer. I have the same OEM wheels as you for my winter setup (to which I add a set of Nokian WR's). I'm in the Framingham area...

Love to see some pics (do you have the two-tone interior?); I use the stock six-spokes with Pirelli P6's for summer, and some 15" older styles I got on ebay for winter.....

****the Goodyear snows were cheaper in 15'!!
What kind of mileage you get? Have a mechanic you like yet? (GDawg likes a dealer in Wayland, which I have yet to try, but my CEL has been on for months).

Eddie,

I do not have the two-tone. I think that started in 2000 if I am not mistaken. Not sure about mileage. I measured it once a while back and I think it was in the low 20's.

I service the car at Hatch and Sons in Wayland as well. They are pricey, but when the car has something wrong with it, they usually identify it immediately, and they fix it right. It is amazing how well they know the Benzes.

When I first got the car, the oil cap showed a bit of gunk on it. Hatch and Sons said that I should put synthetic oil in it and change it after 3000 miles the first two or three times. They said that usually cleans the engine up nicely. Sure enough, 2 changes later, each about 4000 miles apart, things look a LOT cleaner under the cap. The car runs very strong and smooth.

I like the look of the new wheels on my car. They are definitely subtle, which gives them more of an OEM look. My last car was a HEAVILY modified A4 (supercharger, suspension, etc.), which got a lot of the modifying bug out of my system. This time around I was in the mood to keep things stock. To see lots of pics of the A4, check the link to a friend's site (I sold the car to him):

Also, here is a pic of the supercharger kit installed:

Here's a pic of my current Benz:

Wink

I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and give Hatch a try (GDawg characterized them as less expensive than most dealers), as my mileage has always been low, even before the CEL came on. It's my first Benz, so I'm not sure if it's even running as it should....it seems really torquey, like a powerful beast, chomping at the bit, but I assumed that was normal. Thanks for the response.

really? I think it's the first one I've liked in a long time (lately, there seems to be a lot of rudeness and less empathy). Well, that's what makes America great: something for everyone. Don't enjoy a thread? unsubscribe!

hey ahopeter, before you unsubscribe....you seem very knowledgable; have you seen many failures of the LCQ's in the odometer/trip meters?
