1995 C200 single arm wiper problem
Hi there
I have a 1995 C200 which has a wiper problem. Basically, the wiper arm initially broke out of it's natural arc and would get stuck, and would only work on the middle speed setting. I approached a couple of Mercedes dealers for a solution and they quoted £650-750 to replace gears/motor. I decided to use a temporary measure of a shorter blade. Now, after a year or so, the wiper is not working at all. I can hear the motor working on all settings but the wiper arm does not move. I removed the wiper arm and the have looked at the shaft mechanism. This seems well lubricated, in good condition and moves freely, but it seems there is no longer a connection to the motor.
Any advice on what I should do next? Garages I have approached do not want to get involved. If anyone knows of a good garage anywhere between Taunton and Exeter (in the UK) who would know what they are doing with this please contact me.
Best regards
Ian

Lube the wiper
The cover can be removed from the wiper base and the system lubed. Use a good grade of grease. Search this site for the directions.
The lube interval is recommended at 30k miles.

If you can hear your motor the gears have come disconnected. If they aren't ruined you can get new bolts and bolt them back together or you may need a new wiper unit. You will have to take the arm apart to see just how bad it is.
