The Lowdown on transmission fluid
As I've done on my American cars that I've had, I generally check the transmission fluid ever so often but usually don't have to do anything. On my C280, you can't even get the cap off. Does the t-mission ever need servicing? If so, how to do it and what do I need? Also, what type of fluid would be good to use if it needs "topped off"?

im going to do it sometime in october. i heard its relatively easy, but you have to buy a dipstiick. all of the parts including the fluid and the dipstick are available at www.thepartsbin.com. good prices too.
ill do it in oct and see if there is anything pertinent you need to know.

no, 2.8 litre 6, but there might be upgraded suspension components. my dealer said that, in comparison, a non-Sport C280 is "plain vanilla ice cream", but he's a car salesman! my wife probably would've preferred the wood trim!

C280
Not to change the subject but a friend bought a 97 C280 Sport about a month ago. Since i will be performing maintenance on it is there any difficulty changing brakes or oil?
I found out about the tranny cap not having a dipstick today. I have a 124 and have not worked on a C Class yet other than removing the encapsulation panel underneath to try and find the tranny cap that fell down between the engine somewhere.
Thanks
Jim
