Anybody know if the shocks from a 2001 CLK55 are the same as/will fit/are better than what is in a 1999 C43?
And I have read that C43 front brakes/rotors are a unique breed all thier own but what about the rotors/calipers from the CLK55 fitting a C43?
Thanks

The shocks from a 2001 CLK55 are not the same/will fit/may be better but better is a subjective term than what is in a 1999 C43.Originally Posted by toamend

The C43 front brakes/rotors are not a unique breed, the are the same design as the W210 E50/W210 E55/W208 CLK55 and therefore the 2001 CLK55 rotors/calipers fit the C43 perfectly either separately or together.
The W208 CLK55 is made up of a lot of parts from the W202 C43, the W210 E55, and the R129 SL... "made up" meaning the parts that are different from, say, a W208 CLK320. Without thinking too much, I would say that almost no parts that are different on the CLK55 from the CLK320/CLK430 are designed specifically for the CLK55... maybe the body kit.

Thanks Scorchie,
Since 'better' is subjective as you correctly point out, could you tell me if you think that they are harder or softer than the stock shocks on the C43?

unless u have spare clk55 parts lying around... i think a better question is what do u want to achieve with the c43 in the suspension area

I believe they are harder, as they are tuned to work with the higher-rate springs of the CLK55. Probably on both compression and rebound.Originally Posted by toamend

SteveS,
That is exactly it, my shocks are tired at 68k, and there seems to be some spare CLK55 ones lying around the shop with 10k on them. Thanks for the info!
