removing the shift knob on a 94 C280?
I just got a new shift knob, but I can't figure out how to get my old one off. The shift knob I got is off of a 2000 C-class, the only way I can see to remove mine, is by taking the whole gear shifter off, (including the stem) rather than just the knob. Can anyone help me?

First of all you need an adapter so it will fit on a 1994 model. You can get it here at the bottom of the page.
To change it out remove the black plastic ring around the shift area where it meets the wood trim. Open the cup holder area about halfway so you can get your hand in there and pull up on the entire wood piece and move it out of the way. There are four plastic tabs that go around the hard shift boot. One on the back, one on the side and two in the front. You will need a flat head screwdriver to push on these tabs while pulling up on the plastic. Once you get that up use a 10mm wrench to remove the shift knob. Install the new adapter. Put on the new wood shift handle and twist the black plastic ring to secure it. Reinstall everything and enjoy.
