Can anyone recommend an engine swap / transmission swap for a 1997 C230? The automatic transmission is slipping and since the engine has 145k miles, I think it's a good time to swap both. I would love to upgrade, but I'm not sure about the electronics and brackets and such. It's probably best to keep in the same class (C230, C280, etc...)
I would like to keep the cost to less than $4k, so I'm looking at low to mid mileage engines from wrecked cars. I would consider a rebuilt engine/trans, but probably want to stick with a low mileage un-rebuilt engine/trans.
The car has been great, and everything else works fine, it's just time to rebuild the existing engine trans or swap.
Also, can anyone recommend a good shop in the Dallas area? I've used non-Mercedes mechanics in the past, and I've had a lot of good experiences with those guys, so I would prefer a non-dealership since my car is high on miles and I want to keep costs down.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance.... Paul
