C230K - Mysterious oval-shaped hole under engine compartment
Hello MB experts,
My car is a C230 Kompressor year 2000 (W202 C-Class).
I was trying to remove the leaves and dirt that falls and accumulates into the engine compartment and noticed an oval shaped hole on the "floor".
It's nearby where the Air fitler/AC system is located, sitting behind the front right/passenger wheel. From where the mechanism connecting the engine hood to the car frame is, if you look below, that's how you will see the hole on the floor.

Questions:
Do the hole connects to the outside of the car? Else where does it lead to?
I pushed the leaves and dirt into it, but I did not notice anything falling out of the car as it was very dark. Perhaps I should have done a test during daylight but it's too late now.
Should I worry about trying to remove the junk from whatever internal space that is beneath the hole?
