Question FSS question

I know I've done this before and it worked (resetting FSS). Can someone look
at this and tell me what's wrong?

1) Switch ignition to #2 (run)
2) Press '0' twice (within a second)
3) Turn ignition back to #1 (just the key in position)
4) Press and hold '0' and turn key to #2 (run). Keep the '0' pressed for ten
seconds and release after the next service interval is displayed.

What I get at step four is:

2.8
49 10

That's what the display shows. I think the current mileage on the car is 40,910 or close to it. Anyhow, when I restart the car, the small and large
wrench is displayed with the number 0 in the display.

If I'm doing this right, yet not getting the correct results, can the FSS be
reset through a tool like the AutoEnginuity ScanTool?

Thx.

Flexible Service System - To me, it's more of an annoyance..... It's the gadget
that reminds you of servicing your Benz. I like doing my own work and prefer not
using it. Anyhow, I've tried to reset (from other posted msgs from other members) and not having any luck. I may try my Auto Enginuity Scan Tool on Saturday to see if it can clear it electronically.

Your procedure is correct.
Just reset mine yesterday ( after servicing the car ).
I don't believe a scantool, other than the dealer M-B tool, can reset the FSS.
Try doing the same procedure with the door closed.
I've heard this suggested in the past, but never bothered to verify this.

I think the door was closed but I will try another couple of times today.

Still won't reset.....

Tried it like five times and get the same results I posted at the top of this thread (with door closed). Now the FSS is showing a negative -100 flashing
with the two wrenches.

The - 100 & flashing wrenches only mean that you're 100 miles past service.
I really don't know what to tell you from here on

Will do. I'll print it out and take to the car and try again.

I followed the instructions and got the beep I didn't get before yet I notice
an oil can and a clock in the display. It vanishes when done and I get the
usual wrenches. I saw on ebay there's a device to plug into the OBD2 port
to reset the FSS. I'm going to connect my AutoEnginuity Scan/Diag and see
if I can clear that way. I'll post results if it works...

I believe the oil can & the clock give you a choice for your FSS, if you want it based on mileage or days.

Please keep me posted, as this has me puzzled.

Not to keep beating this.....

I've tried this countless times and spoke online with someone that works on
these. He recalls mine is different and is looking into the procedure. I can't
understand why it's different but it is. I'll make sure to share this information
once I get it working. Now it's a PITA. Every procedure I've seen talks about
the ending beep (which I don't get but do get the oil can and a clock/timer icon in the display).

Thumbs up Finally got it to work

The trick was completing the whole process within 2-3 seconds once the
wrenches are displayed (at least until you get the 10000 reset in the display). Before I was taking my time - aside from when I quickly depressed the "O" (twice). Glad it's done. Thanks for your help.
