Went to get my alignment done...

and the total came out to 1130 bucks! I was expecting to pay 100 bucks. I have 18's, stock height. The car would pull a little and it had a slight shake in the steering wheel that would stop as i got above 80 mph so i thought alignment would take care of these issues. The dealership told me I need to replace my control arm bushings on both front wheels and I need to replace a toe link something something. My brother picked up the car so I dont know the exacts yet, but is this a common problem? Also the dealership told him the parts were 66 bucks for bushings and 250 bucks for toe link something something. Could it be a diy job? THanks.

1100 bucks? obscene. you getting new tires too? you could install the parts yourself, if you have a good shop to work in and the tools needed. but someone with a machine will still need to align your car. It's a four wheel alignment if i am not mistaken. so the shop you take it to will need a good machine. i wouldn't take it to wallmart tire though i had a mazda aligned there and they left the back struts loose so the holes on the brace got all f'd up. it realy is a shame how some people think they can stick it to you because your car has a star on the hood. not just mechanics either by the way. i would shop around the next time i needed service. just my opinion. Good luck

For the alignment, I paid 75$ and the shop did alot of MBs. (This is with the 190D.) Also paid $250 for a rear control arm or something (maybe what you replaced) with the 190 at a different shop as well. I think there was another 50$ in labor or what not because the total came to about 300$ for everything. More recently, after my tires were slashed I had 2 new tires and a balance/alignment for $320 done at another shop familar with MBs. Sorry to hear the cost was so high!

Ohh for the Walmart issue, I had a friend take a Range Rover there to have its oil changed and they drained the oil, but never replaced it, or they over filled it (1 of the 2, as I dont remember exactly). Needless to say it blew the whole engine and Walmart was sued to buy him a new car.

Thanks for the reply. The dealeship had quoted me a 103 bucks to align the car....4 wheel alignment. I was ok with that. Then they came out with 1130 dollar bill. I checked up the parts online and they are basically half the cost of what the dealership wants and i think i along with my brother can put the parts in.

Even if we are made of money, that's really sick! Out to make a buck on us. I
haven't done an alignment as of yet and the car rides well and the tires look
good (so I'm not messing around with it).

I smell BS. Depending on what you want to align the, you can't really adjust anything on the rear wheels. (Unless you get a set of http://www.speedybnz.com/ custom rear camber arms)

Yes, the Lower control arm bushings are common problem. They are made of rubber and the way thier shaped, they will break easily. The labour on them is long. If you don't have the special MB tool to extract the bushing, good luck. It took me 3 hours just to fabricate a tool at the shop i use to work for. Pieces of old exhaust and wheel bearing casings. Don't forget to change the stering dampner while your at it and check the ball joints, the ball joints are a common problem as well.
