6-Speed Tranny Leak

My 6-speed 2005 C230 SS appears to be leaking tranny fluid. I am aware of the Auto transmissions having a leak from the electrical plug, but I have not heard of anyone with a manual having a leak. My car is at the dealer right now and my service advisor said they are not sure what kind of fluid is leaking or where it is leaking from. They want to keep it over night and see if anything appears on the ground in the morning. I have been wiping an amber colored fluid off my garage floor for a couple months now and the area it is dripping from is right under the tranny, so I am plretty sure it is not engine oil.

Anyone else experience a leak with the 6-speed tranny?

I still don't have my car back, but I think it was manufactured in either July or Aug 2004. The dealer put some dye in the transmission fluid and will check the leaking fluid with a blacklight tomorrow to see if it is indeed tranny fluid. I was told it might possibly be just cosmoline that melts when the tranny is hot and it is dripping off the top of the tranny. I should know the answer soon I hope. My car only has 1,600 miles on it and the leak or whatever it is started dripping on the garage floor around the 1,000 mile mark.

I wouldn't think amber fluid is transmission fluid. If it is leaking that far back not sure what it might be. Keep in mind that leaks will appear further back than the really are.

another problem with someone's new 2005?

Do me a favor and update us ASAP, along with how long your car is in there for, how the service dept is treating you, and anything else you think is important.

Good luck man.

Update: Got my car back today. The dealer had the vehicle for two days and had the "head technician" drive it home to see if the car would leak after they put dye in the engine and in the transmisson. No dye was found in the liquid dripping from the car so they are sure that it was just melted cosmoline that was dripping. The tech said my car had an unusual amount of cosmoline under the car.

I was a little upset to see that there was a paint chip near my left headlight which must have occurred when the tech was driving the car home. My service advisor was very nice and gave me some touch-up paint to fill in the paint chip. He also filled up my gas tank since the technician used almost half a tank driving the car around. I hate having my car being driven by strangers and being gone for two days, but I am glad to find out that the transmission is NOT leaking.

The only other complaint I have is a small rattle in the driver's door. Very minor, so not a big deal. Otherwise I am very happy with the car and the polite service I received at the dealer.

I don't think manual tranny's use amber colored fluid. They use clear gear oil.

"Cosmoline is a petroleum based preservative with the consistency of heavy grease used to protect metal from moisture during long term storage or transit."
