I'm on the cusp of purchasing the ASP pulley kit, but here is my concern. It seems as though to get the best possible performance from these kits, you need to have your dealer remap your fuel settings for you. They HAVE to know that something is up when they do it. Isn't that like putting a big black mark next to your name so they can deny any future work that could have otherwise been covered under warranty?

Does anyone have programmers (without buying a whole upgrade program) to take care of this?

Dont do business with tuners that dont offer a complete service. What makes you think that a metal wheel is going to make your car better. All it does is make the driving experience different by changing the way the car accelerates. Any real performance changes are easily explained with a larger engine.

If you have the 2002 coupe, 2.3L engine then the pully is a good purchase.

anything else i wouldnt bother.

Your car has an adaptive OBDII computer. It will adjust the car as best it can, and the car will see reasonable gains from the pulley. If you want to pursue a chip afterwards, do so. But do not buy chip first, pulley second.

I don't think you need to change anything in the computer to get gains from the pulley. And uh wouldn't u think they'll notice if they just pop the hood lol? On a brighter note though, i read somewhere in this forum that mercedes can't void your warranty if you install something. Only way the warranty can be voided is if they prove that the damage to the engine was done by the pulley. Use the search button, it's ur friend

Without any software, flashing or ECU settings changed, the ASP pulley should add 30-35HP. The ASP design is little more than a stock dampener with an larger OD. Its pretty hard to even tell its not stock.

At anyrate, if you STFF, you'll find that the car mfr must prove the pulley caused damage before it can deny you warranty claims.

There is talk of having to upgrade the program at the dealer, thanks to the search button.

Wow, I didn't even know that ASP has a pulley for the 2004. How much does it cost? How many pulleys does the kit come with? From what I understand from the other tuners, just doing a pulley on a 2004 will get you 10-15HP, a far cry from the 2002 but what can you do, a 2004 can never be a 2002.

LOL

Carl, I think the search for the most part still shows your own experience with a C230 without regard to MY. Anyway, wasn't there a thread a while back where someone was looking for a test mule with a 1.8? Somehow TX comes to mind.

I really haven't been following it. While I really enjoyed having a pulley in my coupe, I feel more subdued in my new sedan and don't have the need for speed that I had with the coupe. I know they were looking for someone to test but have no idea if they did or didn't. It's always best to have competition amoung the tuners.

So, there is no need to update anything at the dealer.
Check the threads on the new Kleeman Kit.
It's best if the dealer doesn't know.
People with the 2.3L often swap the pulley between services while under warranty.
Not sure how those with the 1.8 will handle it,
but you may want to wait a little while, see how things work out for those with the new kit.
Pulleys on the 2.3 L aka M111 have been used for years with few issues. Since kits for the M271 have only just become available, time will tell what the toll is.

I have ASP pulley and I still make everything on the warranty

My dealer doesn'T care, as long as the mod doesn'T break something.

The M111 pulley can be changed without the dealer noticing, but he will see the new relocation of the MAS.. which might lead to seeing the non mercedes belt on the crank pulley

Another post that makes no sense.
Relocation of MAS? Non-mercedes belt?
Ok...
it's time to STFF.

He probably has an older M111 like on the pre-2K R170 or W202 which required you to relocate the MAF sensor to avoid a turbulant spot if you increase boost. They can either move it forward or backwards and it fixes the problem. The W203 and newer R170's don't have this problem.

The problem on the new motor is it's already close to it's peak boost for that s/c so you don't have the leverage you had on the M111. So for me, I didn't think twice about spending a few hundred bucks on my M111, I'm not sure I want to spend 5 times that amount for 1/2 the gain. Just economics, nothing else. Keep in mind that in 2002 C-Coupe, I didn't have an engine choice, if I wanted more power I had to mod it, in 2003+ you have the V6 as a good choice.

So by new motor you mean the one that would be in an 04 C230K, right Buellwinkle?

I'm a new convert from the OOOO world, so i'm still learning the motors in these.

Hi Nuk & BW! Such a nostalgic thread. Hey Jr., just FTW and have some fun, ASP has served me well. I can't believe BW didn't elaborate (he must have replied from work), but he was kind enough to do some dyno research back in the day and can explain "FTW." Still AutoXn Nuk?

STFU?

you should search a little more or STFU yourself! By searching my posts you would see I'm active more in the W202 forum.. ohh, and then you'd see I have a W202!

Like buell said, my car needs a MAS relocation to change the turbulent spot. Also by changing the pulley, i needed a longuer belt, which is not written mercedes on it.

I really don't understand you to start telling "it's time to STFF. " without knowing anything about my case.

Here's the dyno on my 02 coupe before and after my Kleeman pulley was installed. Hopefully you'll get similar results. And the increase in torque is OH SO SWEET
