What I don't understand, is even if you didn't care about the car because it's leased, why would you pass up on 15-20HP? People pay thousands for a pulley/chip kit just to gain that amount. I've seen a dyno where the difference was 19hp between 89 and 91 octane.

Dude I have a 230 sedan, I ain't beatin' nobody.....premium fuel or not. If i wanted a fast car i would have bought one....However sometimes I find the driver of a '92 Camry sleeping at the wheel and I pounce!! They'll usually race until the turn off for the retirement village....then I know victory is mine. Benz power!!!

something about that disturbs me, i wouldnt put less than 93 in my car if its an extra couple of bucks at the pump so be it, at least i know my car will be running great and the next owner will appreciate that as well im also on a lease

wasn't there a thread about this? i'm also too lazy to STFF as the OP, but from what i remember from that thread, if something happens to the engine, the MB will be able to find out if a lower octane was used and then invalidate your warranty, regardless if using the lower octane was the cause of the problem.

100% no. They can ASSUME you didn't, by looking for carbon deposits, etc....But they can in no way ever PROVE you didn't use hi octane.

I know what you mean, it's so slow that probably 10% of the cars on the road are faster than me but lucky for me I can easily pass you, ha ha! But where I live people drive a little faster than in NJ and don't have to stop to pay tolls every few miles. That little bit of extra power is important to me, otherwise I would have gotten a C240. BTW, do people on the east coast still say dude?

My problem with running lower octane is the detonation happening! Why ruin the engine to save a few bucks. If you can not afford the gas you should not buy the car.... Sorry but why screw with the engine?

Valid point your are not for sure, but I grant you this if it shows leased for the previous owner dont buy. But buying used is not bad especially if its certified. What you have to worry about, MB will take care of the car for you.

A gallon of a brand name bottled water costs more than a gallon of gas. As does a gallon of milk, for that matter. Here are a few other things calculated to their cost per gallon:

Chanel No. 5 Parfum: $45,056
Revlon Nail Enamel: $983.04
Visine Advanced Eye Drops: $741.12
Vicks 44D Cough Syrup: $96.67
Coppertone SPF 45 sun-block lotion: $90.11
Pepto-Bismol: $58.52
Evian bottled water: $21.19
Mocha at Peaberry coffee (tax included): $22.28
Corona beer: $12.89
Snapple: $10.32
Tide liquid detergent: $8.39
Coca-Cola: $2.64

No matter what, we're still not paying what gas really should cost. I'm sure the Euro members would love to see gas for anywhere near what we are paying!

Just to add another thought, when you buy the car you know what the requirement is and just because there is some outside influence you can't change the deal after the fact. Just like a spouse, when you get married you know what you're getting. You can't get part way into the marriage and then treat them like dirt (or decide you'd like to date other people!), or you're going to be single again. I will say that it is MUCH cheaper to trade in your benz for a regular-octane car than to get a divorce...

I don't notice much power loss from using 87 instead of the recommended 93. Nor is there much mileage difference between the two gases. Car runs fine, still get the power when i need it, and i save a nice amount of money. I lose the car in a year... so gonna have to save up for the next ride

It won't help. Those idiots will still be on the road. Lest you forget, these are the same idiots that speed in a snowstorm because they got an SUV, talk on the cell phone in traffic, and the same loosers that ***** about the price of gas constantly.

Motorcycle is getting a lot of use lately.

I've NEVER heard of gasoline octane rating coming in an even number: "94"

or is that just odd in California ?
