Question Picking up my Car this Afternoon. Extended Warranty and Maintainese Question.

Been waiting for little over 2 months and my car finally came.
C230 SS full loaded.

I am from N.Cali. I would like to know little more about the Exntended warranty program and prices before I walk in to negoiate on that. Usually that is the place the dealership chop people.

Do you guys think its worth it to get the extended warranty? and what is a good or fair price for it? and what is the best term to get?

Also maintainese? I heard it probably cost around the same if i just go do the change and pay each time. What is a good deal to get it as a package?

Hope to hear from as many of you as possible. you can email me directly if you have time time. henry0513@hotmail.com but will check back here in time to time. Thanks alot.

The best price I know of (and I think may other forum members have done this too) has been to buy it from Lisa Lehrbaum at the Chino CA MB dealer. Look it up and call her for her best price, say that you saw her prices on one of the forums. She'll know exactly what you are talking about. You do NOT need to buy the warranty when you buy the car, and there are good reasons not to. (Comparison shopping for example). The only reason I can imagine buying the warranty w/ the car is to factor it into financing if you are financing the car.

i too am from the bay area and bought my car in fremont. friends of mine recommended the extended warranty. standard warranty is 4yrs/50K, extendended is 7yrs/75K. hope it will pay off if something goes wrong past the standard warranty. the finance lady started at $2500 and showed me a mercedes pricing chart which showed i think around $3500. it's their sales pitch of a one time offer. i stood my ground and pretended to think about it and then declined. she said, "no problem" and continued to type of the contract. minutes later, she dropped it down to $2400, later to $2360. i did the same act and declined again and again. it wasn't until later she asked me to sign the paper confirming "declined". I then said, how about $2350 and you got a deal." she agreed. warranty was financed with the remaining balance after my deposit. it is not taxed. I saw another thread on this forum of a member who paid around the same price. good luck to you! enjoy your new ride

if you plan on keeping the car past the standard warranty, then get the extended. i dont know what kind of break, if any they give on warranties. i paid $2350 for the 7yr.100k (3yr/50k, however you wanna look at it). i plan on keeping mine a while and i think its worth it. plus fully transferrable to anyone who buys the car from you should any warrranty remain.

I _think_ that $2350 is MB retail for the warranty for your (and my) model car. Price varies w/ model. I paid $1650 for the same warranty 7 yr 100 k from Lisa Lehrbaum, and only knew to do so by reading the forums extensively. It is NOT necessary to buy at time of purchase, from your original dealer, or even from a dealer in your home state. (Canadians -- different story all together. I have no idea how it works in North North America....)

How recently did you get the extended warranty? I have to get mine in the next 4 months (car looks like a keeper) and am preparing to make the jump this Spring.

I purchased my warranty within the first 12 months of ownership (which was the requirement at the time) sometime in 2003. It took a couple of weeks for the paperwork the way I did it (fax, etc) so I wouldn't wait until the last possible day. I have no idea if the policy is the same for a 2005 model car. Mine is a 2002 and I purchased the warranty in 2003.

Thx, I guess I will call and check on Lisa's prices too. Well I would like to factor the amount into my finance but if that is that big of a different.
2350 vs. 1650. I guess I will try to find a way to get it.

How the heck can she get it that low if anyone else seems buying it around 2300 range???

and do you guys vote for the maintainese plan? cause 2005 doesnt come with it.

I just called lisa and she quoted me $2990 for the 7year warranty. >_<"

I guess that would be too much for the extra 3 year (milage will probably expire 1st too)

She can sell it for $1650 because the dealer cost on it was $1600. At retail $2350, the finance manager is making a big stack of change on any car that he can add it to during the final contract. With Lisa, it's after-the-fact and it's business that she wouldn't otherwise have at all.

Hmmm, that doesn't sound right to me (for a C230 sedan, right?) Here's my suggestion: go to mbusa.com and get a list of all of the dealers in California. Start going down the list and ask to speak with the finance manager. Ask the finance manager for a quote. Most of them are going to tell you the retail price. Some of them are going to want to "call you back". Some of them are going to want you to come see them and buy the car from them instead of where you are buying it. (This might be easier AFTER you have posession of the car). Eventually you will get someone who is willing to deal. Perhaps Lisa Lehrbaum is no longer able to deal, or perhaps the retail price went up so much that $2990 is a good deal. Or perhams I misunderstood what car you were buying and you are really getting a C55 or something that WOULD have a very expensive warranty...

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
C Class extended warranty is $ 3,700 list for 3 extra years, 100,000 total miles. Any AMG model is $ 4,800 list. I have read that the dealer price is half, but I am not sure what MBUSA does for dealers that sell lots of units.

C Class maintenance plan is $ 1,312 list for four years, 52,000 mi, or Maintenance Plus for $ 2,919 which includes front pads each year, front rotors and read pads every two, and one set of rear rotors. They also toss in wiper inserts each year (wow).

$3700 is a BIG increase in price. Maintenance for $1312 sounds like a rip off. Maintenance Plus for $2919 sounds like a totally insane rip off. (My car now has 42000 miles on it and I _JUST_ replaced the front pads. My cost was about $80, did it myself. That means that if I had maintenance plus I wouldhave paid $1600 for what really only needed to be $80. FU MB...

Buy extended warranty?

It all depends on how many miles you drive your car in a year and how long you expect to keep it. If you have remaining warranty on a car you are selling it is a definite plus. I am very happy I bought the extended warranty and have used it beyond it's original cost. Unfortunately MB is going through a period of quality problems and I think extended warranty is a requirement if you plan on keeping it beyond the original warranty.

I would tend to agree, but I'm biased by paying $1600 rather than $3700 for the warranty. Does this mean that MB recognizes just how unreliable they cars can be, or is it more of a statement of just how rediculously expensive their repairs are?

Thx for all ur response. I finally decided not to get the extended warranty cause the dealership did quote me $3700 and funny thing is when I act like its too expensive and decline it, he didnt give me a 2nd offer and just tell me to intial on the no. ( maybe my acting sucks lol)
well but no matter what i dont think the price will comes down to $1600.
I think 1600 will be a very reasonble price but not $3000 or 3700.

with that money I guess I can have my car fix if anything happen in that extra 2-3 years. (I was just hoping and hopefully i dont even need to spend that money)

Thanks and I am happy with my car so far.
BTW, the S and C stands for Standard and Condition. Just to correct some one the post I saw some where in this forum saying it stand for sport and comfort.

I love my new ride, now just need to save up money to install a DVD system and hook it to the Navi. ^_^

I had some warranty work done, and the paper work had a coupon for 10% off an extended warranty. House of Imports in Buena Park. They are an AutoNation dealer, so they me be doing the same around the country.
