No BS... I know about the tranny, but ever heard of motors running the way they are driven?

Besides, we have a 50k warranty, drive hard right away and if a problem is generated you take it in... drive like a granny where problems come later, you can pay for them out of pocket.

Proper break-in does not require driving like a granny. Underrevving the new engine is even more dangerous than racing it (unless it seizes, of course). If you fail to do it right, your engine still may last well over 50k mi, and no warranty will ever help you, as there will be no obvious signs of failure. The penalty will likely be increased oil consumption and reduced/uneven compression in cylinders (=reduced power) due to improper ring seating.

All of wich I will have tested at 40K

I agree with the granny driving, seams that people are doing that though.

Oh, before I forget; the secretary that has to inform you, the new prospective car owner: Sorry, but we had an accident while track testing your car. Please wait while we put you back to the end of the line. We do afterall have a schedule to meet. So sorry.
I'm not sure what your talking about but I wasn't suggesting MB should track-test the cars like Ferrari does. MB prob produces more cars in 1 day then Ferrari in 1 production year. When your paying $250-500K for a car they can afford to employ in house car testers...and they do.

Vadim - Sure you don't have to floor it at a track...but they (ferrari, etc) do. As for the safety thing I brought up...it's just an opinion I have because I really don't see any other reason to 'break in' the car.

like when we got our new bed, me and the misses broke it in at full throttle. :v
oh wait, did I just say that out loud?

IMO, under 1K you should drive the full RPM range till about 6K... and every so often, show that honda next to you what you paid for

$0.02
Cheers!

i had a hard time learning my car. it redlines so fast in 1st gear it was hard not to. my VW 2.0 Beetle i had before this car had such a hige 1st gear compared to my C-Coupe, plus the 2.0 was very slow, it was difficult properly follow the break in guidelines without concentrating on my driving technique.

i say drive it like you stole it... so adaptive tranny gets use to the quick and higher rpm switches, or your car will swtich at like 3k everytime, and wont have the whole 2000 - 5000 rpms to use its torque...
