I had my car out on this beautiful day and it's a little warm so we have had the air on for the drive when after a while it didn't feel like the cold air was blowing any more. The EC light is on and will not go off. Got home & I read in the manual that when that happens it needs to go in and get serviced. My 2001 C320 has only 2k miles on it, does this sound normal that it already needs to have the air serviced? Has anyone else had this issue? Appreciate any comments. Hope you all have had a great weekend and no EC lights.

No, it's not normal. If you can't turn off the EC mode, according to the manual, the refrigerant level is low enough to cause damage to the compressor so it protects itself by not engaging. Unfortunately, your car must have a refrigerant leak.

Also - although most manuals never mention it, it's good to run any car's air-conditioner at least once a week for five minutes to keep all of it's parts lubed. etc. I always try to remember to do this in the wintertime with all of my cars - most of which have much simpler climate control systems.

Yes, warm weather when you have the windows down. Otherwise, you'd be refrigerating your neighborhood, and I'm not that good of a neighbor.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have an early am appointment tommoro to get the car looked at. I'm thinking either that not enough freon was put into the system to begin with or there is a leak. From what I have heard all systems leak some. The dealership better not even try and make me pay for a dime of this. By the way revstriker I take the car out on nice days so it is mostly a garage queen. I bought a beater to drive back and forth which to my surprise is actually a lot of fun. I can kick my door closed when I get out. Door dings; no problem. I just hope they can fix my car quickly. Take it easy gang.
