ok..so if u get a new filter...lets say a K&N would it change the sound that gets produces from the cars accel? or engine? ..Maybe to the sound of one of those after market short airintakes?

yes thats what i want to do!! then maybe replace that air box with some type of ultra efficent design to get allll the air into the fitler.

In my CDI I have from factory other type of tube, some flexible pvc...
I will take some pics of it, it looks like the same size of yours!

you can see a pic of engine bay in my web site (not good to see the tube but...)

now my engine is so clean you can eat off that plastic shiat.
yea, mine is covered with a bunch of dirt and sand too, but i always figured that it was coming from the outside of the filter as it was sucking in through the cloth.

also, what did you use to clean the plastic covers on the engine?? i've tried just using a damp cloth but it kept leaving marks behind, (similar to fingerprint marks from rubbing)

After I watched the video, All I can say is, if there is no dust or sands in the air, I would run the car without airfilter

OK, set let me get this straight, the C240s have dual intake funnels right? OK, so can we modify that to our intake? I just had one too, and didn't read this post until after I took it back. I wonder if that stock piece would fit, maybe with a little mod, instead of fabricating a new y pipe.

I also want to look into finding a cold air intake and modifying it for our cars. I have done this in the past, like using a civic intake on an older Z24 cavalier.

Also if you come up with a decent design, you can usually have a "cool" muffler shop bend you some 3" stainless exhaust to fit. This is also cool if you have to have it reduced to lets say 2 1/2 inches to fit the stock intake manifold better. Alot of times you can drill/tap out the new pipe to install any sensors that plug in. You can also find some adaptors that modify the square type MAF sensors if equipped. I have not really gotten into this engine yet, but its on my list. One of these days, Ill bring it to my friends shop and tear into it. Ill also have access to some different intake pipes and see if any of them will "fit".

The car comes stock with a cold air intake, the cloth duct needs to have less turbulance and be insulated to stop permiation of heat into and air out of it. I was thinking of getting some black plastic pipe and a spare elbow thats on the air box and plastic welding a flange on to it to utilize the other intake. After looking at the car for a few minutes, there is not enough room between the elbow and the capped air duct to use a pipe that will allow for engine movement. That is why MB used the other side. The air box side is the side the engine lifts on when reved. Also that would be sending water and road debris right into the filter. I was also told by somebody on this board that the M271 gets plenty of air and sending more air in may not get you any more power. Although with a pully and headers, it would most definately help.

awesome!!! i'm so frustrated FedEx has had my filter for 3 days now but failed to attempt to deliver it!!!!??!!?! UGH.
How do you clean this filter? I read somewhere that it only needs cleaning every 50,000 miles or something? At that point why not just buy a new one instead of bother cleaning it.

Because cleaning it is cheaper than buying a new one.

whats odd, i remeber back in autoshop my teacher was a hardcore K&N user. He had lots of racecars and big trucks. I would see the filters all nasty and dirty and he said they run better that way i was also told the same thing from a friend of mine who is a lexus tech.

never knew if it was true or not.

The logic is that dirt particles get in the oil/gauze media and act like extra filter media. Anyhow, the K&N might show some small gains. Still waiting to see if anybody is going to remove the silencing baffles or do the cloth pipe replacement.
