Question Why don't MBs have child-locks?

So I just spoke to the MB folks and they told me that MB doesn't have child locks on the back doors, how bizzare is that?
All I need is for my 3 yr old to open the door into a tree/car/rock and that will really make my day!
It seems really odd to me given all the other safety features on our cars that they don't do this, anyone have any good ideas, can I get it added from a UK/European door?

Yes they do, you should see the size of her smile when I take her for a ride in my car
Anyway that's why I got the C32, I needed a car with 4 doors!

I just find it strange as the rear doors even have the holes for the child lock switch, just no mechanism.......

I think it's more of an electronic child lock. B/c when all the doors are locked, you can't open the rear doors without unlocking the car. (hence, you should get the flush aluminum door pins so that they can't pull the locks out manually...)

hum, I have a little button in my centger console (W202) with a child sign, I think it's child lock but I don't know if it'S for doors or windows.

but my rear doors are child proof because I changed the pins to the euro ones, when they lock (after going over like 5mph) you can'T unlock them from the rear when trying to open the door, I have to unlock them from the front.

on the center console of the w202 with the windows buttons and everything? that's not a child lock. it's actually the passenger side airbag indicator.

Once you set the auto-lock feature to lock the doors on drive-off, the rear doors remain locked until the driver opens his door or unlocks the doors manually at the center console. It's true a child can pull the door pin and unlock the door, but if they are properly seatbelted in the rear seat (5-years and less is the law in my state), they shouldn't be able to reach it.

(imo, if you don't strap your kids in--at any age--you have a worse problem than worrying about them getting to the door locks.)

While I have C-Coupe (straight) door pins in the front doors, I've left the Golf Tee rear door pins in place, because the adult children I go to lunch with like opening the doors if I'm asleep at the switch and don't unlock the doors fast enough.

Really, it's ok to say it's an oversight and really sh*tty design - MB won't track you down or anything.

Maybe my daughter has really long arms but whilst strapped in her carseat (she's only 3 1/2) she can easily reach the door pin and I think she may even be able to reach the door release handle.

The door handle will do nothing in the back of a Benz if the door is locked. It does not lift the pin when pulling the handle like the front locks do!

eh, this is a non-issue for me, so good or bad design I could care less. the one thing that BUGS me is the LATCH system. does EVERY damn car really need this? first off, the latches look like ****, and they tend to stick people in the back sometimes. can't that just be a dealer installed option or just an option for the 20% that actually need it? I think it's a waste of money when they can use it for other safety measures...

erm...that is only like that in NA spec benzes...not in ROW benzes...

As for the child lock: every ROW W203 comes with the child lock feature...it is just the NA cars that come with different rear door locks and THAT is also the reason why the NA spec cars come with golfbal Ts as doorlock pins.

With a eurospec lock you will get the childlock.

greetingz,

Well, the obvious answer was that you should have a coupe in the first place- problem solved! :p

Nooooooooooooo, the whole reason I got the C32 was that I need 4 doors as our next child's due in June and I just can't get 2 kids in and out of the back seat with only 2 doors!

I know, the problem is that she can lock/unlock to door (using the pin) without even stretching!
