my brakes were squeeking and i took it to the dealer and they cleaned them for me with some kind of chemical or something. Ask your dealer about it.

Might as well get Porterfields. At least you won't get dust with your squeal. There have been some tips on this forum for dealing with that. First remove the pads and bevel the leading and trailing edge with a file or grinder. Then sand the pads to get rid of any glazing with about 80-100 grit emery cloth and clean them off good. Then use the emery cloth to create a cross hatch pattern on the rotor. Then use liberal amounts of anysqueal compound on the backs of the pads and re-install everything.

Of course if you are going through that much trouble you might as well replace the pads. You can get Mintex or Pagid for about $50, the EBCs for about $90 or the Porterfields for $135. Factory pads where about $90.

And...how long will that last?

If you use an emory cloth on the pad and rotors you will create ridges and non-uniform thickness on them creating pulsing and premature wear along with less braking power. Spend $5 and have them turned at a shop so they are done right. Squealling is the vibration of the pad against the rotor and usually can be stopped by putting a narrow slice in the surface of the pad from the outside edge to the inside edge. Put the slice off center to create two uneven segments and dont cut too deep to hit the wear sensor. This breaks up the resonance to the vibration and no more squeal.

...Give it up, Timmy. My family have been MBZ owners since 1975 and accept the fact that as long as your pads are standard MBZ fare, you will find it necessary to live with the signature dust and resultant squeal..... Some things NEVER change.

Just get the aftermarket pads and the dust is reduced a lot. About 4:1 for me. It looks as bad in one week as factory pads look in 2 days.

The emery cloth is just score the rotor and pads slightly to clean up the glazing. You can skip that part and just bevel the pads and use more antisqueal then the dealers are willing to use.
